Welcome to the Jailhouse farmstay; a dream location for Fishing, Tramping, Mountain Biking, Hunting and Farm Tours.
The Old Te Whaiti Jail, with its own historical background, now lovingly renovated for your comfort. This fully self-contained accommodation is set on a 3000 acre sheep, beef and deer farm located less than a hour's drive from Rotorua, and nestled among Te Urewera National Park and the entrance to the world famous Whirinaki Forest Park.
The Whirinaki Forest Park is home to an expansive range of tramping and mountain bike tracks that cater for beginners right through to the most experienced.
The epic new 35km Moerangi mountain bike trail is a must do, but it's not for the faint hearted!!. For a trail more suited to a day out with the family try the 3km,10km or 16km loop tracks.
The Whirinaki River forms a natural boundary along the farm, Whataroa Farms, where the Jail House is situated. There is private access to the river to fish for both rainbow and brown trout.

Beautiful isolation and quietness, great panorama from kitchen. The old restored jailhouse is actually the master bedroom. Around this other rooms have been added – open plan living/kitchen area, a second bedroom with a bunk bed and a single bed, toilet/shower room and a small laundry room. The master bedroom en bathroom measures about 20m2. Total house surface is 50 m2. From here you can do five treks, easily four in one day. One trek has reflector for walking at night and possibly see Kiwi.

It was a great and comfortable tidy unit. Lovelly location. Would like to see more info about the history of the building in your information book and some coffee sachets would have been appreciated by this coffee addict... :-) Over all though, we highly recommend staying there and would certainly be be back at the first opportunity!!! Big Thank you from us.
