  • A great location for Families, Lovers, Skiers, Trampers & Fishermen.
  • Stunning views.
  • Peace & Tranquility if you want it with the convenience of being handy for all local attractions.

The Rotoaira Retreat is basic and comfortable retreat at the foot of Mt. Tongariro with stunning views across Lake Rotoira & Mt. Pihanga.

It really is an ideal venue for those that love to be outdoors, in a stunning setting, beside a World Heritage site.

But, if doing outdoor stuff really isnt your thing, the Retreat is a great venue to spend time cuddled up together in front of the log burner, looking across a beautiful vista.

If you have kids there is lots of room for them to play and explore - they will love it

If you have dogs, they're welcome too and theres even a secure dog run where you can leave them safely, from where they too can enjoy the views!

Despite tranquility and solitude, all that the area has to offer is within easy reach, for example:

It is less than 20 minutes to the carpark at Whakapapa, and 15 minutes to the Chateau and National Park.

The finish of the Tongariro Crossing (Ketetahi) is only 7 km's away.

Lake Rotoaira is less than a two minutes away - good fishing, swimming, kayaking and jet ski-ing here.

Fabulous fishing at Lake Otamangakau and Lake Rotopounamuare are only 10 minutes away.

Fishing, rafting and kayaking on the impressive Tongariro River are only 10 minutes away.

The start of the Tongariro Crossing is approx 20 km's away – the Tongariro Crossing tour buses drive past the Retreat, en-route there.

Turangi is less than a 15 minutes away and is handy for the lovely Golf Course, The National Bank, Cash Machines, Petrol Stations, Supermarket, Bakery, Liquor Store, Tokaanu hot pools and boat-ramp access to Lake Taupo

It doesnt matter if you seek tranquility or something very different – the Rotoaira Retreat will meet your needs.

This is now my 4th time staying at Rotoaira Retreat, and I have loved every moment. The accomodation is rustic but always clean, always plenty of fire wood and always wonderful chats with the neighbour. :-) I will certainly be back!

We had a great time - fishing with the lake only 5 mins away.Great place to stay - always clean and tidy plus as the ownwer is in close proximity he always ensured we had plenty of firewood right at our doorstep.Wonderful hospitality.

very friendly owner, nice view, very convenient location, heaps firewood. will come back to stay again.

This is a very typical farm styled bach, nothing fancy but clean and tidy. We loved the fireplace and Dave had left us with a barrow full of wood ready for the fire. The surrounding area is beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed the ride through the forest on the quad bike...compliments of Dave. Unfortunately someone stole the extra roll out bed so there are only two double beds now.

The house is in a fantastic location - the view of the lake and mountains was stunning and the proximity to National Park was a bonus. We loved the fireplace too. However the house was filthy. We spent the first hour of our stay scrubbing the toilet and bathroom and even had to put the shower curtain through the washing machine as it was so grim. There were dead blowflies throughout the house and the dishes in the kitchen all needed washing before use. The house needs a major Spring clean!
