We have a wee cottage for rent out in the country of CHB. It has a small, sunny patio area with outdoor table & chairs. In summer a pool is available to cool off in, and there is a BBQ for the Kiwi barbie.
ALL MEALS ARE SELF CATERING. But there is tea, coffee, sugar, s&p, oil & flour in the cupboard for you to use. Herbs and spices, plus anything you may have forgotten are available from the house. The nearest supermarket is Waipawa, a 10 minute drive away. Portacot, highchair and washing machine available. NOTE: The cottage is small, so using the fold out couch in the lounge takes up 40% of the space while in use. If preferred, we have 2 kiddie sized, covered foam mattresses that can be put in the bedroom.
We live 20 minutes south of Hastings and only 20 minutes from the world famous Tuki Tuki and Waipawa trout fishing rivers. We can also offer information on the superb local wineries. Our valley has typical HB outcrops of limestone rocks which make it picturesque, and which we love. With the owners permission it is possible to walk to them or to the top of the hill opposite our place. Fabulous views.
We are growing 170 olive trees and 65 truffle inoculated oaks/hazelnuts.
Extensive vege gardens, including strawberries and raspberries for the house. Peach, apricot, apple, plum, almond, persimmon, quince and pear trees also for house supply, wild blackberry bushes down the road for jam, and 2 beehives for honey. Our vineyard supplies us with enough grapes to make a barrel and a half of red wine, and this is also for house supply! Depending on the season, your timetable and your interests, you are welcome to participate with any beekeeping, distilling, or other activities happening during your stay.
We have a staffie called Poppy, our 2 muscovy ducks are Petunia and Pansy, and we have 5 hens who supply us with eggs. Please keep in mind our poultry is free-range if you are visiting with a dog.
Our road is only 3.5 km long so our valley is quiet and secluded.

  •  We loved our stay at the cottage. There were gorgeous views and the cottage is comfortable and neat. The owners went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We were away most of the day, and they happily took care of our puppy without us asking for them to do so. I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a peaceful and picturesque getaway.

  •  Loved all of it.

  •  The Quiet Cottage has stunning views across the valley and one evening we saw the rainbow, no pot of gold unfortunately. The cottage is not ye oldie worldie one so don't go looking for that. You need to drive if you want to go anywhere and plan for this if you do.
