The Clifftop apartments were built in 1992 on a one acre sheep paddock as close to the cliff face as allowed. No road noise, just the sound of the sea. Clifftop garden included in “Great Gardens of New Zealand” by Derek Fell,
The north facing upstairs apartment with separate entrance features a deck with a panoramic view of the Seaward Kaikoura mountain range, Kaikoura bay, beach, and township as well as sea and mountain views from every room. The downstairs apartment was built for tourists also but has been occupied by the owners since 1995 after much pleading by the male (gardener and potter) partner.
The size of the guest apartment is 50 sq metres. Bunks in the second bedroom, kitchen bench, and bathroom vanity were handcrafted and purpose built. A good selection of New Zealand books and artwork complement the tasteful décor and relaxed atmosphere. Wireless computer access.
Suited to whatever your degree of fitness and energy, there are a variety of walks, with exceptional views that take you around the owners’ garden, the peninsula or down to the township.

Younger children could need close supervision as the stairs up to the flat inside the building are open at the top, the horizontal wires on the deck railing may invite climbing, and there is a pond in the garden.

The views from Clifftop Apartment are fantastic, and the house is set in splendid gardens with a lovely patio overlooking them. Inside, we appreciated the window screens so we could enjoy the breeze without bugs. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. I would have liked something easier to cook on than a 1-burner hot plate. We enjoyed reading the books & magazines on New Zealand topics.

Hi Bonnie, Thanks for your lovely comments and feedback. Perhaps you are not used to or do not like the electric frying pan that is supplied as well as the hot plate. We could also supply an electric steamer and/or an electric grill. There is not room to easily keep the grill and steamer in the apartment but I will put a note that tells people they are available.
