If you are looking for lake-front accommodation, bird-song and tranquility, then look no further!

Wai Taha is located on the shores of Lake Hawea in a small settlement called Gladstone (known by the locals as Johns Creek). It is literally a stone’s throw from the waters’ edge – hence the name Wai Taha - which in Maori means ‘water’s edge’.

Wai Taha offers unsurpassed lake and mountain views and, though it is only an 8-minute drive from Lake Hawea township, feels like a private oasis. Wake up to native bird-song and stroll across the lawn for an early morning dip in the lake before breakfast. The outdoor dining and BBQ setting, located on the front verandah, will no doubt become the hub of your holiday. Enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner al fresco, nestled beneath the leafy wisteria, while overlooking Lake Hawea to the majestic mountain peaks beyond.

The crib is a very basic but delightful 2-bedroom 1950's affair and can sleep up to 5 people comfortably. The larger of the two bedrooms offers a queen-sized bed and a single bed and the second bedroom features a double bed. In addition, there is a single divan bed available for a 5th person in the living room area. The crib is ideal for one or two couples or a family of five with school-aged children who are seeking a holiday retreat away from the madding crowd!

The bathroom features a shower only and separate toilet.

An open-plan kitchen and dining area flows through to the lounge which features an original fireplace incorporating local schist stone - a must for a roaring log fire on those cold winter nights! A TV and DVD player are available for rainy days and wireless internet access is available throughout your stay for a small additional charge.

With Lake Hawea on your door-step, boaties will find its’ location hard to beat and fly-fishermen will delight in the close proximity of the renowned Timaru Creek!

‘Wai Taha’ is approximately a 20 minute drive from Lake Wanaka. It is within 1.5 hour’s

  •  Wonderful wee crib, ideal for a quiet get- a -way. Gorgeous views of lake and mountains, and lovely people to arrange your stay.

  •  We all felt at home in this 1950s crib. It was comfy, shady (some hot days) and had magnificent views. we loved waking up and seeing, from our bedroom, the early light hitting the mountains on the far side of the lake. We would have appreciated having a washing machine, as we had been tramping previously and were running out of clean clothes. The hoovermatic did not work. Also, our friends said that their double bed was on the short side - and neither is tall. Otherwise, a lovely, quiet house.

  •  Stunning spot, incredible views from every window. Private and cosy, highly recommended.
