Ideally located to visit some of the Coromandel highlights such as Sailors Grave, Cathedral Cove, Cooks Beach or Whitianga within a short drive. Charter boats are available for fishing and diving trips from Tairua.
A ferry service runs regularly from Tairua to Pauanui.

Tairua itself offers a great selection of shops.
A visit to the Mania Gallery (situated on the Main Road) is a must. The Gallery offers an interesting selection of NZ made and imported goods and artifacts .
The Video and DVD shop is situated next to the Gallery and offers many of the latest movies. The Video shop also offers internet access at very reasonable rates.
The Pharmacy is well stocked and open 6 days Monday through Saturday.
Milly's Dress Shop is a favourite of many and for the younger set Chances Surf Shop sells the main branded clothing lines of Roxy, Billabong, Rip Curl and O'Neills.
There are several great eateries from Cafe/Restaurants like "The Landing" and Mania to the up market Shells Restaurant. Around near the Dive Shop there is a refurbished Ferry offering good wholesome meals throughout the day and night.

The estuary in front of the bach is a shallow tidal haven great for kids to play and kayak, where they can be watched from the deck. The more energetic can take a relaxing kayak up the Pepe stream. For the keen golfer, there is an eighteen hole golf course just minutes away.
