Entering The Pakawau Beach House is like stepping back in time. It is snug and clean as though it were built yesterday, yet it retains the simple fashion and appeal of its 1950's origin. Situated on a lovely corner section at the northern end of Pakawau, it enjoys one of the longest stretches of private beach frontage in Pakawau, ideal for splashing toddlers and sun-soaking adults alike.
The bach overlooks the rich and vast tidelands in the lee of Farewell Spit, the protected year-round gathering place for thousands of native shorebirds. Abundant cockle beds are just a short walk from the cottage's lush, sheltered garden.
The Pakawau Beach House is fully equipped with everything you'll need to serve dinners for six or pack lunches for day trips to nearby Whanganui Inlet or Wharariki Beach. The cottage's two bedrooms are spacious and cheerful. One features a queen bed and set of bunk beds, the other a queen bed. A fold-out futon couch in the living area provides another sleeping option. The bathroom features both a large tub and separate shower. There is no washing machine, but there is an excellent Laundromat 10 minutes away at Collingwood. Parking is just a few level steps from the front door.
The community of Pakawau is a rare gem for those who value the slow pace and small scale of a traditional New Zealand family beach resort. There is a superb cafe located in the old community school; within minutes of several of New Zealand's most celebrated and spectacular natural attractions. Collingwood Township is a short drive away where you will find a general store, petrol pumps, internet and cafes.

This property is a lovely private getaway. The beach is perfect for small kids. A great kiwi bach, well appointed with a big garden to play hide and seek. We didn't hear any trucks or anything after 7pm and during the day there is very little traffic. Overall a perfect summer spot.

Nice spacious bach on the beach, has heaters, great reception on tv (stereo CD's not working). Lovely long deep bath with hot water. Wished we brought boardgames 4 young children and more books. The bach is on a corner by a 100 speed limit sign so at night, the trucks sound like they are right next to u. Also the wind whips around corner so walk up the beach to get shelter. Bigger deck to sit and watch the water would be nice. Thorny grass so kids played on beach. Kids liked the couches & bunks
