Fabulous beachfront cottage located in one of the most beautiful areas in New Zealand - Golden Bay. Tastefully decorated and set in a quiet, private location surrounded by forest reserve and looking out over the ever changing blues and turquoises of the sea. Punanga (Maori for "sanctuary") is an ideal retreat from the hectic pace of 21st century living - relax on either of the two large decks and be mesmerized by the constantly changing views. Watch the antics of our almost tame tuis and bellbirds that come close to the decks to feed or just listen to the rhythmic sound of waves lapping the shore. If you can drag yourself away, Milnthorpe Beach is only a few minutes walk along the waterfront - a long, sandy beach which is great for swimming. The more energetic can walk all the way to Collingwood (45 minutes) where they can refuel on coffee and/or Rosy Glow chocolates) before returning home. Punanga's central location in Golden Bay gives you easy access to all that the region has to offer. Half an hour drive in one direction will bring you to the golden sands of Tata Beach; in the other direction you will find the wonder of Farewell Spit and Whariwharangi Beach. Tramp into Abel Tasman National Park or arrange a kayak trip. Drive to Totaranui and then walk to Awaroa, crossing the inlet at low tide, to have lunch at the lodge and then take a water taxi back to Totaranui. Drive to the beautiful Kaihoka Lakes in the Westhaven Inlet and if you have the time go all the way to Patarau and the wild west coast. Golden Bay is home to a large variety of artists and crafts people - wile away some time in the studios of painters, potters, jewellers, sculptors. Check out the local cinema in Takaka, head to The Naked Possum for one of the tastiest wild game pies and savour it in front of a roaring fire (Friday nights) or go to the Mussel Inn for home brews, toe tapping music and the region's most famous composting toilets! Golden Bay will delight you.
