Friendly pet sheep and Odie the pet dog for the children to pat, and the pet chickens to hold. Free Wifi.

The shearers quarters is located on Sawdon Station a high country sheep station, 5 minutes drive to Lake Tekapo, and 20 minutes drive to Fairlie.

The shearing quarters is a building set up for the people who shear our sheep once a year(In September). Our shearers are an extremely important group of people who stay for up to a week or more.

This accommodation is basic, with a large kitchen, heat pump, wood fire, four bedrooms. Set up for the shearers, but open for bookings over other months. It is a retro house, older furniture etc.

Excellent location for families, who would like to experience a farm, huge area around the house, for cricket, mountain biking, walking, flying kites...... Great location to escape from the stress of life. We have a maximum of 6 adults for this cottage.

Full tea, coffee and sugar supplied, but no milk. Just need to bring your clothing, and food.

Close to Lake Tekapo, with its excellent hot pools, the Trippo water slide, summer tubing, the night sky, the lake for swimming, boat cruising, and fishing. Walking to the top of Mt John for the best café in the world, and the best Japanese restaurant in the country! In the winter, two ski fields one (Roundhill) 30 minutes from the cottage, and the other (Mt Dobson) 40 minutes.

Cottage has all day sun, plenty of firewood to supply the large log burner. It is surrounded by the spectacular southern alps and the Mackenzie Basin. By climbing the small hill behind the cottage you can see for miles, 360 degrees - absolutely beautiful on a crystal clear day. Rare find in this stunning location.

Please read all our excellent reviews.

Farm tours offered, and able to feed the pet sheep, lambs, and hens.

Special conditions: Smoking outside only. We check the amount of guests staying, and babies are to be included in the guest numbers as you book. The cottage is located on a working high country farm so caution is to be taken as there are many hazards. One night bookings can be requested, but there is a $40 cleaning surcharge payable. If you decide to leave before the end of your stay within a long public weekend or a peak period there is no refund of nights accommodation.

The location is stunning - quiet farm setting and views to the mountains. The house is old (as advertised) but everything functions well and it was toasty warm when we got the fire going one freezing morning.

Please note the rating is for the Shearers' House. The cottage would have been higher. The location was excellent for visiting Tekapo. We loved sitting outside for breakfast in the farm setting - wonderfully peaceful.

  • The location was excellent

The location was excellent. We were in the countryside which we loved but also very close to Tekapo to take advantage of what was on offer in the town. The property was a working farm and the grandchildren were able to bottle feed the orphaned lambs which we all loved. Sadly we just ran out of time for several of our family to be taken on a farm tour.
