Take the time to heal yourself at New Zealand's unique healing hot pools (Ngawha Hot Springs) and mineral spa (Ngawha Spa), which are only a short stroll away from Ngawha Retreat and usually are open for public the whole year around. Enjoy the spectacular views over Opononi, or see the mighty Tane Manuta - 2000 years old Kauri tree in the Waipoua Forest on the North Island's West Coast. Drive the other way, and have a fancy breakfast at Paihia - which is also only half an hour away. See the dolphins or visit the historic Kerikeri,- all before coming back to Ngawha Retreat in the evening and relaxing in healing clay waters of hot pools. Ngawha Retreat is ideal for the curious traveller as the central base in the Far North for a short stay, just as it is perfectly suited to a group who wishes to undergo a healing course at the local hot pools over a couple of weeks. The Twin Coast Discovery route and the New Zealand Cycle Trail are also very close by. If you need more information about healing properties of clay water or are interesting in healing packages which we offer in Summer, please contact us directly. Sorry to hear you were not entirely happy. But reflecting on your notes, it might be said that - It’s not the Hilton indeed; it’s just an ordinary middle-class family countryside bach maintained to pretty good standards of tidiness, and we are constantly working on its further enhancement. At our website, you can clearly see what you get, and to decide then. - There was no need to burn treated wood because there is plenty of clean dry firewood in the shed; it was just a matter of thorough look.
The house was dusty and the lawn grass was not maintained, thus there were lots of bugs and insects in the house, rubbish from the previous occupants wasn't removed and had a rotten fish smell. Overall, it was a good stay for us.
It’s a big fully equipped house, bed is firm although pillow is very thin and soft. Very close to Ngawha Springs with convenient location. Just the hygiene and is not quite up to standard. Maybe the owner has to specially hire someone to take care of the cleaning job. Spider webs are around the window and ceilings, the bathroom is not well cleaned as I mentioned the hairs is on the floor and wee stain and the “not so clean” floor mat. The pots and pans is oily and smelly kettle.
Sorry to hear about that. The only possible reason why our guests found the house not properly prepared was an accidental overlap of two events: the previous group left the house later than expected, and the next one came same day a bit earlier (well before scheduled 4 pm); our helping hand person has been doing his tidy-up job still when the new group arrived. So, we'll be glad to see our valued guests coming in time to find our place looking nice and tidy as usual.
We couldn't fault the house, the weather wasn't kind to us on the first and second day. Perhaps some instructions on how to operate the TV, for people who normally use Sky not Freeview. The deck at the back is super. An ideal place to stay for people wanting to do the coast to coast cycle trail over 2 days, with the shuttle available to take people and bikes to the end, then they ride back.
