Description

  • Stunning unobstructed view of Mount Tarawera across the lake
  • Secluded lake edge site with shared jetty
  • Bountiful native birdlife and glow worms at bottom of garden

Lockwood holiday home on a sheltered lake edge section in Boatshed Bay. Furnished with an open plan kitchen, dining and living area and a gas fireplace for winter. Boardwalk and steps lead down through bush and tree ferns to a shared deep water jetty. The deck, equipped with outdoor furniture and a gas barbeque, provides stunning views across the lake to Mt Tarawera and Kariri Point. The carport at the rear of the bach provides cover for two vehicles.

Native birdlife abounds, a family of quails occasionally meander over the lawn and glow worms can be seen at the bottom of the steps in the evening. The site is private and peaceful and allows for full enjoyment of all that Lake Tarawera has to offer including safe swimming, lakeside walking tracks, trout fishing, boating, mountain biking or just relaxing.

Situated near the start of the Tarawera settlement it is only a scenic 20 minute drive from Rotorua city centre and a short drive to the local lakeside cafe and the Buried Village at Te Wairoa. The nearest boat ramp is a couple of minutes drive along the road or a five minute walk along the lake front track.

Tui Glen is a great place to escape to at any time of the year and is ideal for couples or small families.

The bach is set in gorgeous gardens on the banks of the lovely lake and there is a generous deck from which to enjoy the view. The house well equipped and comfortable although the need to pay separately for linen seems like a ploy to make the cost appear less than it is. Does anyone really travel with their own linen??!

    Owner/manager responds:

Pleased to know the bach was enjoyed. As for linen, yes, most of our guests are Kiwis and usually choose to BYO linen. A quick check of other properties reveals that nearly all charge separately for linen and also for cleaning and extra guests. We don't charge for these other options and note that in this case the linen etc supplied was not actually charged for. All charges are clearly shown on the site and on the booking statement when making a booking.

  • This property is a hidden gem in a very special location

This property is a hidden gem in a very special location. The short bush walk down to the lake and the kayaks were highlights. Taking a walk in the dark to see the glow worms was also great!! Can highly recommend this place for a couple looking for an escape (forced phone detox with no reception). Rotorua is close enough for a lazy brunch if you can drag yourself away from the birds.

It is pretty much impossible to put into words the beauty of the property, it really is stunning, and a beautiful property inside as well. The only minor detail is the lack of mobile phone coverage at the property, but it's actually pretty nice to be unplugged, and if you REALLY need it, if you drive 2 minutes up the road to the boat launch, there is coverage there. This is a truly amazing property. Hope to stay again, we had a wonderful time!
