This light & modern apartment on Great Barrier Island provides sweeping 270 degree panoramic views over the Hauraki Gulf. Walk into your apartment, and become part of the view. Take a seat on the comfy couch & gaze at the ever-changing water from the comfort of your lounge, or amble down a narrow path through the high grass, sit down on a rock & relax while taking in the view, listening to the waves break on the rocks below.

The apartment is self-contained, has its own entrance, but is part of a comfortable eco-house, from where your hosts will assist in looking after the solar & wind power and firewood systems of the house. The unheated swimming pool with a view is available for a splash in summer.

The remote 4WD location only shared with your hosts is perfect for a honeymoon! Astronomers & other stargazers looking for a place without light pollution but with a large deck from where the night sky can be viewed in its full glory are also very welcome.

Keep an eye out for diving dolphins, whales working schools of fish, graciously gliding gannets & cray fisherman checking their pots. You may occasionally have to check that your book is still in your lap & that your drink is still at hand, but you may completely forget about them, too.

Once you're totally relaxed, you could go & explore the island, or have a splash in the shared unheated swimming pool (with views!!).

The apartment is spacious, around 80m2 and has one master bedroom with ensuite and a walk in wardrobe to store your suitcases.

4WD access only, as our access road is not sealed & steep! Bring your own on the ferry or rent one through Aotea rentals.

Travel to the Barrier by Sealink ferry, Flymysky or Great Barrier Airlines. Helipad available close by.

Special conditions: This clifftop apartment has has amazing views but is not necessarily suitable for toddlers. They are welcome with tight supervision. Our alternative power system is sturdy but cannot cope with an overload. Electric appliances creating heat (hairdryers, -straighteners, toasters, rice cookers, etc.) are very hard on our batteries. Please do not bring them. Phone chargers, etc. are fine. Please leave the property as you found it or pay $100 extra for cleaning.

  • This property is exquisite

    This property is exquisite. Immaculately and tastefully decorated. Large windows and glass doors in every room with an endless view of the ocean. I want to come back to NZ just so I can return to the XSPOT!

    Dream accommodation! It's so beautiful and the best views I have ever experienced. It's so peaceful I felt very relaxed whist I was here. It's well equipped with everything you could ever want. Very secluded and no noise at all. Nice and modern and very clean. Super comfy bed and warm. You really don't need to leave.

    Absolutely STUNNING! Words simply cannot describe this beautiful bach. It's located on a cliff top, can you just imagine the views!? I thought I could until I saw it for myself. SPEECHLESS. Everything you could possibly want for your holiday has been provided. Modern, well appointed bach, and did I mention the views?! Definitely bring your 4x4 as the roads are narrow and unsealed. What a fantastic adventure to Great Barrier. Can't wait to come back in summer :)

    Amazing views are the highlight of this property. The building is of a very high standard - good looking, warm (with a wood burner) and functional. The location is pleasantly remote, yet only a 15 minute drive to Tryphena.
