Cottage | Whale Bay | #17778
A classic Kiwi bach with sensational views from both house and garden. Completely private, beautiful, mature subtropical garden extending right to the sea, with bush reserve on one side. A path winds through the garden to the sea and the garden is for your exclusive use and is not shared by another dwelling. Enjoy the company of the Tuis then watch the sun set into the sea. The section and house face directly north for maximum sun and are completely protected from westerly winds by a flank of Mount Karioi. There is a flat lawn area for outdoor living. Get out of the world famous Whale Bay surf and it’s only a minute’s walk to the bach and a hot shower.
The sound of the sea at night is helpful for people with sleeping problems.
The bach is small, open plan, and has one king and one single bed upstairs. There is a very small bedroom downstairs with a camp stretcher. Bring your own sleeping bag and pillow for this.
Pets very welcome.

If you love getting back to basics you will love this bach. It is nestled on a steepish slope, in it's own little garden and is very private. You will have to navigate the steps down to the bach and back up to your car so it's best to pack a few larger bags than lots of small ones. The small back garden overlooking the sea is paradise, set on two levels, capturing all day sun and views out to the ocean. You can relax on the garden chairs and read, watch the surfers or just daydream. There is a well benched track down the rest of the slope down to the water. The 'beach' is all rocks and hard work to clamber over but is easy access to the surf for experienced surfers. If you walk a couple of minutes down the road you can access the reserve with a little walkway along the beach and benches to sit on and watch. The bach itself is basic but very comfortable. The highlight is sitting on the lazyboy chair gazing out to sea. There is no signal and no TV, so bring books, games, crosswords etc.
Really lovely traditional old bach. Amazing views and ideal for a relaxing weekend away. As expected , it has a basic setup but everything you need is there, with lots of thoughtful touches and we really enjoyed reading about the property history in the information folder. Host was very welcoming and provided plenty of detail pre arrival to ensure we knew exactly what we needed for our stay there.
What a spot...perfect.
