Enjoy a Taste of Abundant and Resilient Living

Just 1 km off S H 1 between Otaki and Levin, at 107 South Manakau Road. A farm building converted over 4 years with love and friendship into a warm and comfortable self-contained Eco-Cabin for your enjoyment. It has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and indoor and outdoor living spaces, next to a bio-filtered swimming pool and food forests. You will be on a 50 hectare organic farm with hills of native forests (QE II covenant) and plantations. You can wander along tracks and bush walks with wide views from Mount Ruapehu and Taranaki to Kapiti and the South Island. Also close to beaches and Tararua Range entries.

We have a small working farm, to provide healthy food and water from a healthy and diverse environment. There are free ranging pigs, hens and ducks, extensive grazing of sheep and cattle, orchard trees, vegetable gardens and grain crops. There are lots of trees, for shelter and habitat, and sustainably coppiced woodlots for firewood, timber plantations and forest wilderness.

The cabin is part of a farm building, made of local natural materials, including timber, earth and stone, with earth floor and earth plaster wall finishing. On-site services of spring water, ‘waste’ re-use, compost and flush toilets, wood range, wind and solar power. All cotton sheets and towels, wool rugs, etc.

Come and relax in an abundant and healthy environment, and enjoy the fruits of the land at our place. We will provide you with a breakfast basket of our own organic or local produce.

  • The craftsmanship in the accommodation is lovely

The craftsmanship in the accommodation is lovely. The organic basket of food was great, particularly the warm loaf of bread. Really enjoyed the location and the owners were also very welcoming. Sasha the dog was welcoming too, and the pigs a delight. Would stay again!

  • Just what we wanted for a long weekend

Just what we wanted for a long weekend. Close to hiking destinations, beach, and away from the city. The fire was great and we enjoyed cooking in the oven underneath. The construction of the cottage is interesting and has lots of intriguing features. The little piglets were so funny and always on the lookout for food scraps. We loved the breakfast basket with its home made bread, farm eggs, fruit, jam etc. A great addition! Would definitely stay there again.
