Pa's Fishing Lodge is an iconic Kiwi bach that has been added to by each generation to make it a perfectly comfortable home-away-from-home.

If you are looking for a luxury lodge, this is not it. If you are looking for a comfortable getaway where you can kick back and relax, this is your place.

We even allow dogs (with certain provisos). We are dog lovers ourselves, and our dogs think Turangi is Heaven, so how can we say no? The property is fenced (though very small dogs can probably get under the gate, and very large ones can jump it) and there's plenty of room for them to play.

Summer in Turangi means peaceful walks along the river....kids jumping in for a swim when it's hot....wandering across the road at dawn to fish the Breakfast Pool and then back at dusk to dry fly fish Major Jones...barbecues on the back deck...long evenings playing board games or curling up with a good book (we have lots of those).

Winter in Turangi means lighting the fire in the lounge and, if it's really cold, getting the old coal range going as well (perfect for a long slow roast dinner or rice pudding)...skiing Whakapapa or Turoa - less than an hour from door to chairlift...then afterwards a long soak in the hot pools at Tokaanu...more fishing (nymphing the many pools up and down the river, maybe taking a short trip with your size 5 line to the Waimarino Stream)...... reading or playing games.

Winter and summer, spring and fall, lovely walks abound - or arduous hikes - whatever your preference. Cross the swing bridge and walk up to the Red Hut, pausing to watch the fishermen dotting the river.

Great starting point for the Tongariro Crossing, too.

Whatever the season, Turangi means RELAXING

Special conditions: Pets allowed with prior approval. Size 9 waders available. Expect to build a fire in the winter!

The house is great and the new heat pump in the kitchen and fire in lounge makes the house toasty warm when it's cold outside. It's kitted out with all you need to make your stay easy. We're repeat visitors and will likely be back - we live the location by the river and super close to town! A great house in a great spot.

  • It is a very well equipped and cosy batch

It is a very well equipped and cosy batch. It is not modern at all but is still comfortable. It is in a fantastic location for the river for fishing and access to the Lake. We were there in summer but visited a nearby ski field easily.

We loved this property, it had every imaginable thing we needed and was super comfy, also with a large and most importantly secure yard for our dogs to enjoy. I have rated 3 stars more from it is a little older but full of retro charm! I loved the solarium where you can just sit and read the day away in the sun and the backyard was like a secret forest the pooch's loved. Beautiful location right across from the river. We hope to visit again in Summer!
