Bach or holiday home | Lake Hawea | #18949
It doesn’t get more idyllic than this. With only a 2 mins drive from Lake Hawea village or 15mins drive to Wanaka township – you can enjoy easy access to shops and your daily flat white but then quickly be back in paradise relaxing and enjoying nature.
It's also a magical venue for your office Christmas party, team bonding session, boutique wedding or niche event.
This is a unique slice of paradise. There are not many cottages available to rent in such an idyllic spot. You can hear the birds every morning and the water of Lake Hawea lapping the shore just below the cottage. You truly feel renewed and invigorated after a stay here.
Surrounded by native trees, nestled in a corner nook of the lake, John's Creek has its own microclimate. There is open space for kids and adults to run around and bike. It's easy to get your boat in at the marina at Hawea township or with a 4WD directly outside the cottage.
Come nightfall, you can crank up the BBQ and braziers then have a soak in the firebath beneath the Southern stars.

Excellent location quite area and beautiful lake views . Beds were comfortable . Loved the fireplace . Overall had a good stay but need to mention a few things .I know it is advertised as a Shack but they definitely need to get better lounge funiture as the chairs were VERY uncomfortable !! They also need to replace some pans in the kitchen. Location rating 5 , comfort rating 3
The Black Shack was a fine little place. Great for two people - could be tight for four. The end of summer found this a bit over grown - the driveway was nearly covered with bushes as was the front walkway. No issues with any of the equipment or water or whatever - though we did find that the evening brought thousands of little black insects - so we had to leave all the windows and doors closed - and there was no fan!!! Overall - the location, the seclusion was terrific - but a bit rustic.
