A picturesque cottage and well-located but dark and shabby inside. Sorry, but can't recommend.

    Owner/manager responds:

See comments below. The house is dark inside compared to modern houses but cool in summer. The house has been used by family for years so the lounge suite in particular, has tears but it was my parents' first lounge suite so will be staying. Many items are old but that is part of its charm.

This property is in a great location and has lots of room for lots of people. BUT, this being the second time we stayed there I think it will be the last unless the owners get serious about cleanliness and maintainence. What was cute is now looking tired and worn, there are holes in several curtains or they are treadbare and u wonder if you'll put your finders through. The carpet is gritty and severely in need of a full steam clean. The house though lovely just feels neglected.

    Owner/manager responds:

Thank you for your feedback. We have now included a cleaning fee to ensure the property is up to standard. The owner passed away in early December so some chores have been neglected. The garden has been tidied too. Two lounge curtains were washed which caused the thermal linings to stick together. They will be replaced later next month.

  • very quaint with interesting artifacts around

very quaint with interesting artifacts around. Excellent location which was our main reason for choosing it as we could walk everywhere. It was not particularly clean especially the kitchen. We slept in the upstairs room which was great but you would not be able to get up there if you were big as there was a narrow and steep stairway.

  • Historic cottage very handy to the waterfront

Historic cottage very handy to the waterfront. Loads of character and interesting to read about Captain Bruce and the history of the cottage. Highly recommend a visit to the Giants House and lighthouse tour (open Sunday afternoon and when cruise ships are in the harbour.

This property has great potential, but a major garden tidy up and interior house clean would not go amiss. Fly poo all over the place which couldn't be missed when we visited the distribution panel to flip the necessary switches to get the hot water happening. Window screens would be a nice extra because the quantity of blowflies at this house was impressive.
