Summer has arrived in the north!

You don't have to drive far off SH1 to find us but you'll be amazed at the beautiful and quiet location. It's a great place to relax with the nice hot shower and comfortable bed, perfect for a good night's sleep.

An easy drive to Cape Reinga at the top of New Zealand and close to Ninety Mile Beach, Protea Park Cottage is situated on our 30 acre farm where King Proteas are grown for the export market.

Overlooking a picturesque pond, the cute and cosy cottage is a quiet haven with its sheltered deck allowing all weather cooking on the BBQ.

The large fridge/freezer and well equipped kitchen make meal preparation easy and it's a short drive to local restaurants for sit down service or takeaways.

Rabbits, hares, pheasants, wild turkeys, quail and other creatures roam with the horses amongst the protea adding to the experience of kiwi rural life.

A short drive takes you to either magnificent white sand east coast beaches or 90 Mile Beach on the dramatic west coast. If you venture into the forest around dusk or dawn it’s very likely you will spot a herd of wild horses.

For the keen fisherman or golfer – wow!! It’s all here in the far north, come and see. Fish prep and hose down area on site.

The forest and superb beach horse rides are absolutely amazing; Bring your own horse or hire one from the local trekking establishments; even better take a guided ride.

Ample parking for boats, trailers, horse floats, cars etc.

Children are welcome and we do have stretchers and airbeds if you need them.

It's nice to just walk around the property, always something interesting to see. The pond is now home to several ducks with a few wild ones popping in to visit each day and it's just a short walk across a bridge to the back of the farm where the horses usually live. You can walk amongst the King Protea to the highest point of the farm from where you will be able to see the Houhora Harbour.

Special conditions: Two night minimum applies for public holidays. Well- behaved house pets welcome with own beds Smoking outside only. Bring your horse - safe grazing and stables available @ extra cost.

  • Situated beside their house in lovely grounds

Situated beside their house in lovely grounds. We enjoyed walking the grounds and the friendly dogs. The cottage provided a useful base for exploring above Kaitaia to Cape Reinga. The cottage itself has all the required facilities, and there is access to Polly's washing machine and clothes line - which is very useful

The house is situated in charmful and peaceful location, the garden is beautiful and the animals are very friendly. We loved seeing the horsed and very "well educated" dogs. We really enjoyed exploring the beaches of the far north and fantastic Cape Reinga.

Used as a stopover to break trip to Cape Reinga but in hindsight would have added to our 1 night stay to enjoy what the area has to offer. Cottage roomier than shown, immaculate - so cheerful/homely and well equipped. Covered deck to sit out and enjoy the gorgeous outlook in all weather. Highly recommending to all - only regret is not staying longer. Good value and location.
