Semi attached on 1/2 an acre, Bridget and her 3 labradors welcome you. Hawkshead is surrounded by grazing land and a 2minute walk across the farmland to the Makarora River. Wake to a mountain view all around and the early morning sun. You have your own private entrance and outdoor seating area. The ‘hawkshead’ culture is a very relaxed one. Ideally located 1 hour from the West Coast at the head of Lake Wanaka makes perfect for an overnight stay. There is so much on offer in this valley from hiking, jet boating to scenic flights or simply just to relax , listen to the birds, read book under the shady trees. Travelling takes a lot of energy, so why not take a break and spoil yourself and recharge. Self catering with cooking facilities. In the event that Bridget is not on the property when you arrive, your studio will be clean and ready for your arrival. Please enter through the gates and your studio ranch slider will be unlocked with the key on the inside door, where you will see a welcome note from Bridget. Your host enjoys meeting you on arrival but sometimes this is not possible. As you drive down the country road you see sheep in a field and just a few houses. Once you arrive Bridget and her Labradors greet you warmly. She shows you your wing of the house which is equipped with a small area in which to prepare food, a comfortable large bed and a sofa and recliner. The bathroom is very modern and includes toiletries you may need. Bridget told us about the Blue Pool walk but we actually enjoyed the other walk she told us about more. You simply cross the sheep pasture to the river and walk either up or down for as far as you like. We were lucky that the weather was perfect for our day, sunny and still. The next morning it was very windy as we left so you never know how it will turn out. We didn't try the cafe for either of our meals but it is only 2 km up the road. I'm sure you will be pleased with the hospitality and tranquility of Hawks head.

  • A wonderful couple of days in a peaceful but extremely scenic location

A wonderful couple of days in a peaceful but extremely scenic location. The accommodation was of the highest order. The unit is a perfect size for a couple wanting to maximise the opportunity to relax. But even better than the accommodation was our most obliging hostesss, Bridget’s knowledge of the area was second to none and she helped us decide on which walks would best suit us. Bridget was the perfect hostess in that you never really knew she was there but whenever we had a question to ask she was readily available. Dog lovers would thoroughly enjoy the company of her two lovely dogs.
