Lodge | Puponga | #24197
The Miners cottage has been lovingly built to recreate the miners cottages that used to dot the landscape around Port Puponga when it was a thriving Coal Mining area.
Today Port Puponga is a delightful unexplored gem and if you are looking for a private retreat with fabulous views across Golden Bay this cottage is just right for you.
The Miners cottage has reclaimed Rimu flooring and double glazing and is tastefully furnished with leather chairs and a huge queen sized bed. It is solar powered and light and airy, and although it cant power a hairdryer you can plug in your mobile phone and computer !
There is a private deck and garden and all linen, towels are provided along with a first class breakfast bought to your door and tea and coffee making facilities.
The Cottage boasts a very clean and wholesome compost toilet and probably the poshest bush shower with endless hot water you will ever come across.
Jo and Charlotte your hosts live a stone throw from the cottage on this lovely little farmlet, with our pet British Alpine goat Emma and retired horse Khan, and Lambie our pet Sheep.
If your a keen fly fisherperson we are superbly located a stones throw from Puponga beach where the Kingfish can be found, you would be hard pushed to find a closer place to stay.
In the evening there are several good places to eat nearby, and your hosts are happy to book you a table or give you some tips on what there is to do this end of The Bay. Wharariki Beach is a ten minute drive away and Farewell Spit is just five minutes up the road. The Spit tours are happy to pick you up at the bottom of our drive if you ask them and we are able to give you our extensive knowledge on the walking or riding around this area, and book you a horse trek at Cape Farewell Horse Treks if you like.
At the end of your stay we are more than happy to clean up and take your rubbish away - its all part of the service, at no extra cost, so all you need to do is relax.
Special conditions: The Miners Cottage is strictly for two people, no children or animals . It is an eco friendly cottage powered by solar so although there is plenty of light and you can recharge your phone etc you cannot use a hairdryer or toaster! We provide you with breakfast - but there are no cooking facilities, and we do not allow gas stoves or open fires. This is purely bed and breakfast. No smoking please. No fireworks .

We absolutely loved our time at the cottage. It is peaceful, private and perfectly positioned for splendid views. We stayed in the area so that we could attend a wedding - the cottage meant we had our own "home away from home" to return to. Showering by moonlight was a highlight, as was the delicious breakfast we awoke to each morning. My husband and I highly recommend booking in, and do make sure you visit nearby Wharariki Beach during your holiday - stunning!
