Family friendly or great for a peaceful retreat and time away...

Sit on the deck with a glass of wine and relax, watching the amazing sunsets over the horizon and enjoy the ever changing moods of the tidal harbour, listening to the sounds of the tui, herons other birdlife.

There is a sheltered outdoor area with a barbecue and picnic table.

We have a grassed area on the front lawn where you can relax or the kids can play games.

Fabulous short bush walks where you can sit in the swing seat and listen to nature.

Large organic gardens and free range chooks.

There is a Canadian canoe for your use - we supply the paddles and life jackets. Paddle across the harbour and watch the migratory birds feeding as the tides change, or take a walk around Tern Island.

This is a very safe harbour for swimming at high tide; take a bucket and gather pipis or other shellfish.

Horse trek around the harbour.

Local fishing for flounder, snapper or kahawai; a short walk and you can surf cast in the channel at the end of the road.

A short walk along the road is Ohiwa Reserve where you may see glowworms and can walk up to the Pa site for the most amazing views.

Further along the beach is another little settlement called Bryans Beach.

If you have a boat, a short distance is the boat ramp where you can launch your boat and spend a few hours in the harbour.

A 10 minute drive into historic Opotiki which has a New World Supermarket for all your supplies, an interesting Museum where you can go back in time, and a assortment of great local shops and cafes.

Bring your bike to explore the Motu Trails cycleways; ride along the beach on the sand dunes on the eastern side of Opotiki.

Visit the Information Centre for all the local attractions.

Ohope is 20mins drive and Whakatane is 30mins drive, a thriving coastal town with all amenities, great cafes, movie theatre and you can purchase tickets to go to White Island.

Special conditions: Wheelchair accessible studio and bathroom (Studio No1). Smoking allowed outside only.

  • Wonderful secluded spot with fantastic views

Wonderful secluded spot with fantastic views. Accomodation is basic but has practically everything a couple or small family might need (Except a stove). Will certainly come back!

  • The bach was very clean and comfortable with all the necessary amenities

The bach was very clean and comfortable with all the necessary amenities. The view from the front lawn was stunning and the walks through the property and the bush were great. I have already been telling others about our stay and we will hopefully go again!

  • Clean and tidy unit with all we needed

Clean and tidy unit with all we needed. Friendly hosts, helped with local knowledge. Clever to have disabled access and bathroom (not that we needed but useful for others to know). Level lawn for kids (again not that we needed but good for young family). We were lucky to have another quiet guest for our stay. 2 units good for extended family to visit and use both. Lynda
