Description

  • Short walk to everywhere, beaches, shops, restaurants and shops.Light the yunker and hunker down.
  • Fish off the wharf and catch a fresh salmon or a blue cod for dinner.
  • Sit on the enclosed porch and watch the sunset while you relax with a fine wine or a hot chocolate

The Bungalow is situated above the bay area in Bluff five minutes walking distance from shops and restaurants and the Stewart Island Ferry Terminal at Lands End. From the house you can look out over the bay and harbour and I guess if one's eyes were good enough you might even see the Antarctic. You can certainly see wonderful sunrises and sunsets from this position and of course all shipping goes past you as you sit and watch the fishing boats go out in the morning and return in the evening. Also you might see the odd whale or seal about its business.

The Bungalow was built in 1937 and still has many of the original features, although we are currently replacing windows with aluminium double glazing and have installed an enclosed gas heater in the lounge for instant warmth The Bungalow is a large, warm, sunny, three bedroom home with a king, a queen and one single bed. The sun room also has a fold out double sofa bed for extra guests. All beds have electric blankets. There is a wetback fireplace which warms the whole house very quickly if the weather is extra cold, plus it also heats the water alongside the electric system. If it is cold and windy there is nothing nicer than curling up beside a glowing fire.

The porch, which over looks the bay and the harbour, is enclosed with a clear awning fronting which can be opened up on a sunny day but also creates a wonderful warm place to have lunch or breakfast or to just sit and watch the endless change of the scene below you.

There is a laundry and dryer, free-to-air tv, a fully equiped kitchen with a dishwasher and a stereo. If you have you have your own laptop we are able to provide internet facilities.

We are local people living at the LIghthouse Gallery so are available for enquiries or help most days.

Special conditions: No smoking inside. No pets. Children welcome. Linen and towels provided and changed weekly or as required.

This Bach is an old building and if you want a quaint old style experience then this will suit you. If you want a modern up to date property with modern conveniences then you need to look elsewhere. Views across harbour were great with couple of ships coming and going while we were there. Fire and gas heater warmed the house up nicely. Shower pressure for our stay was a bit low. Lots of space to spread out. We had just come from a brand new Bach for our previous stay so it was a big change.

Loved the old character of the home, comfy beds and interesting location. However, not the cleanest place we've stayed in.

I am so sorry the house was not up to standard for yourself and your children. I have been away and will ensure in future I will check the home myself.
