Description

  • Our reasonably priced adventurous hill country horse treks suit all abilities including beginners.
  • Watch the cows being milked (in season) or bring your bicycles to explore the farm tracks
  • A short drive to Raglan, Hamilton or Pirongia for food and other entertainment

Trade the noise and pollution of city living for the fresh air and quiet of the country. This is a peaceful retreat where you can recharge your batteries while enjoying the comforts of home with the benefit of the great outdoors at your doorstep.

We have scheduled horse treks every weekend, public holiday and school holidays, and for larger groups or a minimum charge can offer weekday treks as well (call for details or see our web site) .

This is a working dairy farm and you are welcome to come to the milking shed where the cows are milked once or twice a day (season dependant - approx late July to April). You can just watch, or put on an apron and try it yourself.

There are plenty of flat tracks and rolling hill tracks to explore as well as a stream and two small lakes. You will have the opportunity to see plenty of wildlife such as hares, rabbits, goats, peacocks, turkeys, pukeko, pheasants, a couple of sheep and plenty of cows and horses.

The farmstay is ideal for family get-togethers, informal business retreats, clubs or groups of friends. It is an older style 1950s house that was once the family home. The lounge has a fireplace for winter fires and the kitchen has been replaced and fully modernised. The beds all have comfortable motel quality mattresses and a large covered wooden deck has been added for outdoor living where smoking is permitted.

Dogs may be permitted by arrangement, but must be kept under control and outside of the farmstay on a lead or in a kennel. Children of any age are welcome and there is plenty of room to play, but parents will need to keep watch on younger children. Smoking is permitted outside.

Amazing spot with beautiful scenery, but the accommodation and farm need some work! House needs a good clean and some basic improvements. Linen is included but take everything else, including all kitchen basics and a few spare tea towels. Dishwasher broken and the plug doesn't fit sink, so cleaning up is a challenge! On a positive, it is a very child friendly place and we all enjoyed the horseriding. The house has massive potential but currently still feels a bit like a backpackers!

    Owner/manager responds:

The dishwasher had been repaired earlier in the month and the previous guests had not let us know of any issues with it so we were unaware that it was not working as it should. It is also the first we have heard of the plug in the kitchen sink being a problem. The dishwasher is now in to be either repaired or replaced and the plug is also being replaced. Thank you for pointing these out so that we can solve the problem. We admit it is an older farmhouse but it is cleaned before every stay.

What a fantastic place to stay! Great for kids - so much to do - or just relax. Loved the kayaks, horse trek, milking the cows, fresh grapefruit, glow worms and just the serenity! Lovely large kitchen and dining - comfy beds and lovely hosts. Easy to book, easy to enter, easy to clean and leave with commercial washing machine and dryer (a must for the last morning after milking and getting a little dirty). Will definitely stay again. :)

We had a great stay, even though we were a bit unlucky with the weather. If you have a group it is very good value. We also ended up doing a 2 hour horse ride. It was a fantastic trek with awesome scenery through forest and up hills with a great view.
