Bach or holiday home | Raurimu | #2733
Plenty of room, Freeview TV, great woodburner, home theatre, awesome drying room and NO BUNKS. Come and make the most of the "Adventure Plateau", with Haven as your base. In Spring/Summer you can sit out on the large deck and watch the sun go down over the flowering dogwoods, with the river babbling in the background and warbling tui's and bellbird's doing their last rounds. When it gets cooler, snuggle up around the fire with a glass of mulled wine and a good book, play cards or bring along your favourite DVD movies.
For the more active, Haven is nestled between the world heritage Tongariro National Park, Tongariro Forest Park, and only a stones throw away from the Whanganui National Park, Haven offers an awesome base for your Central Plateau adventures.
Raurimu is home to the world famous Raurimu Spiral (2nd level visible from the front porch), and is only 20 mins to Whakapapa ski field, 40 mins to Turoa ski field, and about 20 mins to the nationally renowned Taumarunui Golf Course.
The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is rated the best one day trek in New Zealand, and listed by many as one of the top-ten day treks in the world. Haven is the perfect base for the Crossing, and Plateau Shuttles can pick you up from Haven in the morning, transport you to the start of the track, and pick you up at the other end. You could prepare your meal in the slow-cooker before you leave, and have it ready and waiting for you when you return.
But wait, there's more (sorry, no Ginsu knives), Central Plateau offers the best mountain biking in the North Island (42nd Traverse, Fishers Track, John MacDonald Loop), skiing, snow boarding, mountain climbing, hot pools (Tokaanu), climbing wall, trout fishing, horse riding, quad biking, paintball, tramping, kayaking, rafting, scenic flights, natural history, hiking, canoeing, easy day walks, art & crafts, restaurants, pubs, Lord of the Rings filming locations, Waiouru Army Museum, Tongariro Crossing, summit climbs, bird watching.

Overall tidy and clean, crockery and cutlery are provided, so as pillows and quilt. However the beds are a bit unclean and some of our friends reported that there're dustmites on the bed. Lacking WiFi is one of the main issues but we pretty much enjoy the time without technology.
I would highly recommend anybody who want to stay in this batch. Its price worthy and more spacious. The only problem we had was no signal reception and you have to drive down a bit to catch up some signals. Juli was quite upfront about it and we were acknowledged. But i think its good to be without internet and phones and encourage keep chatting each other ;P. Great batch for great price !!
Loved the Haven. Heaps of room for a big group or two families, well equipped with everything you could need in the kitchen, really warm duvets and comfy beds. Heaps of dry firewood and a fire that worked really well. Drying room was awesome after our wet day on the mountain. Will definitely stay again.
Very cool retro property. There was plenty of room with 5 bedrooms and comfy beds. Clean and tidy with everything we needed for our stay. It is very close to the mountain and great for skiing. We absoloutly loved the fireplace and plenty of heaters to warm it up nicely. Thanks
