Description

  • Sunny renovated character cottage
  • A 10 minute walk to Little Oneroa and Hekerua Bay
  • No car necessary

A 1940's cottage renovated in shabby chic style, The Black House is sun and character-filled. Walk down the shelly steps and into the living room, with its pretty bay window overlooking the front garden. The farmhouse kitchen/dining room has french doors on to a deck tucked amongst towering native trees. Think duck egg blue or striped ticking in the bedrooms, and a butcher-tiled ensuite off the master. We have supplied white high quality cotton linen and towels in the house for no extra charge.

If you decide not to bring your car, it's only a 10 minute walk to two sandy beaches. Little Oneroa has a playground, local store and Bevan's amazing Dragon Fired Pizzas made right on the beach. Hekerua Bay is a hidden turquoise cove at the bottom of a grassy track. Just a short bus ride or drive away, is the main village of Oneroa- with great cafes, restaurants, shops, galleries- and a local picture theatre complete with old couches.

And the rest of the island is full of vineyards and lovely beaches for you to explore....

  • We really liked staying at this house

We really liked staying at this house. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anybody. There were a lot of places to rent that did not include linen so that was a big reason we stayed here in addition to the price being reasonable. It was a fairly short walk into town, but we usually took a taxi back since we were too lazy to walk up hill to the house.

We enjoyed the atmosphere of the bach which was perfect accommodation for work related stay. It is surprisingly spacious with excellent bedrooms and spacious kitchen/dining. Sun drenched and close to the beach (not that we were on holiday!). It was clean, well equipped with supplies of clean linen, towels etc. A couple of minor suggestions - the comfort of the sofas in the lounge needs to be evaluated. One is in need of upholstery.

Lovely quiet setting, good quality beds & linen and amazing flowers dotted throughout. Maybe not so great for young kids as no garden but we were at the beach most days! Just needs a big comfy sofa, otherwise a lovely stay.

The bach itself is a cute kiwi bach with lots of charm and character, with everything you need for a comfortable stay. One room has an ensuite, so two bathrooms is always a bonus. There is no grass area as it is on a hill but there is plenty of room inside and the deck was great to hang out on and have a bbq. Plus, easy walking distance to two beaches, a car is not necessary. We will definitely be back!
