Golden Bay is a mecca for tourists, travellers, holiday makers, and justly

famed for its varied attractions including art hub, magnificent beaches,

good fishing, stunning scenery plus world class walks and tramps.

Attracted by the incredible beauty and serenity of the district, many artists

have made it their home.

It is also known as the 'Green' capital of NZ with, per capita, more people

voting 'Green' than anywhere else in the country.

Golden Bay has the good fortune to be blessed with some of NZ's highest

sunshine hours.

The accommodation offered is one of two apartments on the top floor of the

two-storey Art Bank. Formerly the BNZ, it was acquired in 2013 and has

undergone renovation.

This impressive building, opened Jan. 25th 1915, is the tallest building in Takaka,

and the second biggest (after the supermarket.)

Constructed of reinforced concrete on a concrete base, it has external walls over

a foot thick which makes for excellent sound-proofing qualities. Therefore, though

it is right in the middle of town, so central and wonderfully handy to everything, one

can rest assured of being able to have a good nights sleep.

The Village Market, held every Saturday in Summer, is approx. 50 meters from

your door.

A five minute stroll brings you to the lovely Takaka river.

Special conditions: Thirty stairs to upper floor with U-turn landing half way up. Please remove street shoes before entering apartment - shoe rack provided. Not suitable for toddlers due to height of balcony, though left to parent discretion. Smoking permitted on balcony. Top landing library, DVD's, mags and games shared with the other apartment. Building has been rated a potential earthquake risk. Bicycles for use - free of charge. .

  • The apartment is superb and the location perfect

    The apartment is superb and the location perfect. Large rooms, well and comfortably furnished, spotlessly clean, quirky and quality artworks, and the kitchen and equipment felt like one might expect in one's own bach or home. The balcony is a delight, overlooking gardens and a great people-watching experience! Extensive library of books and DVDs to browse and borrow from, and lots of local info, brochures etc. We felt totally at home.

    The location was outstanding, we enjoyed our stay. The attention to detail in the apartment was phenomenal, it has everything you need for a great holiday. I especially loved the wine and cheese provided on arrival, it was much appreciated after a long drive!
