Description

  • Spacious (85 square metre), light and roomy with old world charm. Decor is Maori/Pacifica.
  • A piece of history, opened 1915 - a solid substantial building
  • Centrally located for foraying out to the dozens of sights and attractions.

Golden Bay is a mecca for tourists, travellers and holiday makers and justly

famed for its varied attractions including: Art hub, magnificent beaches,

good fishing, stunning scenery plus world class walks and tramps - to name a few.

Attracted by the beauty of the district many artists, both foreign and

domestic, have chosen to make it their home.

It is also the 'Green' capital of the country with, per capita, more people voting

'Green' than anywhere else in NZ.

Golden Bay has the good fortune to be blessed with some of the highest sunshine

hours in the country.

The accommodation offered is one of two fully self-contained apartments on the top

floor of the two-storey Art Bank. Formerly the BNZ building, it was purchased in

Oct. 2013 and has since undergone extensive renovation.

This imposing building, for many of the locals their favourite in a town that

has retained most of its lovely old buildings, also happens to be the tallest structure

in Takaka - and the second biggest, after the supermarket. It opened January 25th, 1915

We celebrated the centenary with one very big party!

Constructed of reinforced concrete on a concrete base it has external walls of

over a foot thick which provides excellent sound-proof qualities. Therefore,

though it is right in the middle of town and wonderfully handy to everything,

one can rest assured of being able to have a good nights sleep.

There's the added bonus of the beautiful Takaka Memorial Park right next door,

and children's playground and skateboard park on council property behind.

Also, there is a covered veranda downstairs you are welcome to use.

It's just a five minute stroll to the lovely Takaka river.

The Village Market, held every Saturday in Summer is approx. 20 meters

from your door.

Look forward to giving you a comfortable and memorable stay.

  • An amazing property with a lot of history

An amazing property with a lot of history. Such a comfortable and beautiful space and we felt very privileged to stay there. Well stocked with goodies in the kitchen, lounge (mini choc bars) with dvd's, and bathroom. Food in the local cafe's is fantastic and the people watching is fun. Read the local noticeboards - its another world full of colourful people.

Very central location on the main Takaka high street, in old Bank of New Zealand building. Very nicely refurbished as an art gallery on ground floor and apartments above. We were wrned it might get noisy over Christmas in the main street but we had no problems at all.
