Uncomfortable stay. Rudely woken day 1-people walking/talking outside bedroom windows at back of house. We found a lady in the garage, accessed from house by an unlockable door, who said she was the owner, lives there & was surprised we'd be sleeping after 8. No notice given. Lives here? Where? Assume behind door marked Private, we assumed that was owner's storage as website says 'owner near' not 'owner lives on the premises'. No other communication. External garage back door left wide open.
Apologies for the backdoor left open- my builder was finishing off landscaping and garden shed building over the weekend and was given a key so should have locked up plus needed an hour to complete the job Monday 8.30-9.30 . I was working at Riding For Disabled all week and just checked with him on progress as he had another job to go to. I also started work at 9 each day and am very concerned he had not locked the door on finishing- most unacceptable.
We contacted Jan weeks before our stay to put away any breaklables as we have young children. This wasn't done so we did it when we arrived, putting what we could back before our departure. Jan entered the property without our permission whenever we would go out exploring. We felt very uncomfortable and this had a negative impact on our holiday as we no longer wanted to go out. She left us a neutral feedback which was disappointing as we are good renters and left the property clean and tidy.
This comment is a little unfair as I only entered once to turn off a heater that had been left on ,as the day was warm and sunny and I told the family I had done this as I thought they had forgotten. I had explained at the time of booking that my place was not suitable for a young family having only 2 Queen sized bedrooms. This was the first time I relented to have children in portable cots as I hadn't expected for my beds and furnishing to be rearranged or removed.
