Bach or holiday home | Te Kouma | #30315
Our bach is a roomy, simple, easy-care and a relaxing retreat. You no sooner walk in the door and the “Coromandel Cramp” sets in. It is a TV-free zone so if you can't survive without it then this may not be the place for you. There is however a great selection of books for all tastes, board games, puzzles and playing cards. We also have WiFi accessible throughout the house - awesome speed and reliability.
The kitchen is well equipped to cater for any meal you're planning. The fridge/freezer is modern and ‘family-sized’ so you can be sure your food will be safe. The stove has a full-sized oven and four elements and there is a selection of pots, pans, trays, tins and preparation utensils. Small appliances include a microwave, food processor, rice cooker, electric beater, toaster, electric jug and espresso machine. You'll also find plenty of plates, cups, cutlery and serving dishes to meet the needs of your group. The cupboards are stocked with tea, coffee (espresso, plunger and instant if you prefer), baking supplies and a selection of spices, sauces, oils and vinegars to assist with meal preparation. If it is in the cupboard you can use it.
The beds are comfortable. The main bedroom has a flexi-slat bed with pocket sprung mattress. The other queen bed is innerspring and has an additional topper for added comfort. The single beds are best suited to children and young adults but are well sprung and padded if adults choose to use them. All the beds have duvets and there is a selection of pillows. All bed sheets are cotton.
The living space is open plan and has two couches, two arm chairs and a dining table and 6 chairs. There is a book shelf with books to browse, an audio system that has radio and auxillary input for portable devices.
The bathroom has a separate toilet, a shower and a small vanity. The bathroom also doubles as the laundry area with a top-loader washing machine and tub that guests can use (soap powder provided).
The large deck overlooks the Coromandel harbour and provides wonderful views across the harbour to Coromandel town, up the harbour to the Hauraki Gulf and on a clear day you can see Waiheke Island. The deck is furnished with a large table, sun umbrella and chairs.
OUT ON THE WATER
If fishing is what it's about then you have easy access to mussel farms within and outside the harbour, or venture further into the Hauraki Gulf. Boat parking at our place is at the roadside where trailer-boats can be accommodated on a wide grass berm. The roadside lock-up shed can be used for storing your gear. Boat launching is available at the Sugar Loaf public boat ramp less than a kilometre away - launching fees apply.
For those without their own boat, fishing charters operate from Hannafords Wharf located in the next bay along. Details are available from the Coromandel Information Centre.
Puriri Road is a quiet settlement with a mix of holiday homes and permanent residents. The area is host to a large population of tui, kereru and many other native birds - they live and feed in the trees and bush close to the house so enjoy them!
Waipapa Bay at the end of Puriri Road is a sheltered, pebbly bay with a small sandy beach. It is located 200m down the road with safe swimming, a pontoon to play on and all-tide anchorage for boats. There are two kayaks available for your use in the lock-up shed at the house and a selection of life-jackets can be found in one of the wardrobes.
Te Kouma Road meanders a further 3km around the coastal margins of the harbour and is easily walked. It will take you past the Sugar Loaf landing and around to Hannafords Wharf where charter boats and a ferry service operate from. Continue around to check out a couple more bays until the road ends…then you can walk back.
Coromandel town is a 10 minute drive away with a selection of restaurants, cafes and local shops. The nearby 309 Road features a number of attractions including the Kauri Grove, Castle Rock and Waiau Waterworks...

Lovely place with outstanding views of Coromandel harbour. If you want total relaxation this is the place.
We had a great stay. The house is lovely and in a fantastic location especially for fishing. The house was spotlessly clean and was very well equipped. We will definitely be back.
We had a wonderful stay! Sandra's house is very beautiful and cosy, furnished tastefully and featured everything we could have wanted. The view from the house is simply stunning! Great place for going fishing as well as for relaxing with a great view.
Sandra’s Home is impeccable: clean, tidy & very organized! You should see the knife drawer: 6 sharp knives arranged precisely in a row is an excellent indication of the loving care this home receives. We based ourselves here to explore the Coromandel Peninsula. The town is funky with cool shops and restaurants and you can easily drive over to the wild east coast for a day trip. I wish we’d been able to stay longer. You will be impressed.
