Experience a piece of history, this is basic, no frills accommodation in a historical farm house with a character and recently reconditioned original wooden floors. The name of the house is 'The Shearers Quarters' and it's one of the oldest houses in the area. It's a place to relax and enjoy the outdoors all around. The beach is only 10 minutes drive away and offers good surfing, fishing etc.

The house is on the bottom of 'Battery Hill', also known as Kakahimakatea Hill, wich is one of the archaeological sites of Wairarapa Moana and offers spectacular views of the whole Wairarapa Valley.

Enjoy the peace and quite and forget the city stress, make the most of the great outdoors and relax by the cozy fireplace in the evening. Have the place to yourselves and make it your home for a night or many.

DOC walking track into the Rimutaka forest (approx 2 hour return walk) start point is close by, about 1 km from the house towards town on the left side of the road.

Seen alot of negative feedback regarding the property but We have nothing negative to say. The house was clean & tidy. Personally it's worth every bit of the $90 charged. We enjoyed our stay so much we stayed an extra night. The house fire was cosy and warm, the bathtub a luxury bonus. Youre in a prime location close to the lake and sea in a rural area. Very peaceful just the way we like it. Not looking for flash luxury stay just somewhere comfy and close to beaches. Thanks heaps A++

  • The google map pin is incorrect

The google map pin is incorrect. The Bach is close to the sea end of lake Wairarapa. Our pin showed it as close to Featherston! All good though- the location was short drive to beautiful remote beach. Unfortunately there was no map/info at the Bach about the doc walk mentioned in the listing. Would have liked to do this. Or no mention of which hill was “battle hill”. There was a farm track going uphill - but didn’t want to assume anything! Cottage was basic as per listing.

  • We were very disappointed with this bach

We were very disappointed with this bach. It was very smelly and looked like an abandoned house. When we first arrived we couldn't believe this was our bach as it looked totally neglected but it definitely was our accommodation. Inside it was grim and musty. Very different than described in the listing. We decided to go to the beach first and have a think. We really didn't want to stay in that place and decided to move on. I emailed the owner to inform them of this but didn't get a reply.
