Historical farm house with a character and recently reconditioned original wooden floors. The name of the house is 'The Shearers Quarters' and it's one of the oldest houses in the area. It's a place to relax and enjoy the outdoors all around. The beach is only 10 minutes drive away and offers good surfing, fishing etc.

The house is on the bottom of 'Battery Hill', also known as Kakahimakatea Hill, wich is one of the archaeological sites of Wairarapa Moana and offers spectacular views of the whole Wairarapa Valley.

Enjoy the peace and quite and forget the city stress, make the most of the great outdoors and relax by the cozy fireplace in the evening. Have the place to yourselves and make it your home for a night or many.

DOC walking track into the Rimutaka forest (approx 2 hour return walk) start point is close by, about 1 km from the house towards town on the left side of the road.

  • Great location on the farm, quiet and private

Great location on the farm, quiet and private. Bit of a trek out there but well worth it for a weekend away

  • I must admit I would not come back here

I must admit I would not come back here. Of course it's not a pricey batch, but it was a little more 'rustic' than I expected. The building is quite run down, a few windows did not close letting plenty of flies into the place. There was a bee hive in the side building, lots of them died in the kitchen. This is advertised for up to 10 ppl, yet the 'dining' area has 3 low stools to sit on. 1 1/2 toilet rolls provided for a 2night stay. On the + side, lounge is very comfy and it was fairly clean.

  • Rustic, almost vintage, easy to relax, clean and tidy

Rustic, almost vintage, easy to relax, clean and tidy. Peaceful, brought back memories of rural holidays as a child; just sheep and trees, and beautiful starry nights. It felt good to be far from town.

  • I believe the place is posted physically at 3186 rather than 3196

I believe the place is posted physically at 3186 rather than 3196. It's old and rustic, simple but not lacking. Beautiful lounge and lovely fireplace, great location and surroundings. We were very happy and would love to go back.
