Castlepoint is a hugely popular destination renowned for it's dramatic landscape and incredible surfing. There is also a lagoon area which is perfect for more sedate water sports such as canoeing, stand up paddle boarding and smaller children. The local shop/tearooms are two doors away. They stock all the basics and do great takeaways plus L'Affare coffee. There is a golf course located 5 minutes drive away plus The Whakatiki- a great local pub serving great food. Fishing is a way of life with plenty of kaimoana including paua. Pipis can be collected just a meter or two from shore which make superb patties. There are numerous local walks which offer stunning views, ie climbing Castlerock. Sometimes in summer there is the amazing spectacle of the phosphorescent micro organisms which lie just underneath the surface of the sand. When you walk on the beach after dark they illuminate your footsteps- an incredible phenomena! Castlepoint beach was voted number 5 best beach in New Zealand in 2014. It is beautiful and expansive and lined with Pohutakawa- classic New Zealand. There is an amazing big sand dune at one end of the beach which is superb for speeding down on a boogie board. Mataikona is a small settlement 10/15 minutes drive over the hill where there is an even bigger sand dune plus some incredible rock formations- not to mention rock pools and paua hunting at low tide. Walk up the back hillside section of the batch and relax with superb views. It is one big playground for children and adults alike and is the perfect holiday spot to relax and wind down. There are two surfboards, boogieboard, golf clubs and surfcaster fishing rod available for you to use. Special conditions: Smoking only allowed outside. Price is for 4 people; $15 per extra person. High season (1st December to April 30th ) $150 per night with a minimum stay of 2 nights. Low season ( 1st May to 30th No...

It's a wonderful kiwi bach. Loved the quirky art/craft works, the wood burner which kept us cosy on the chilly nights , breakfast on the veranda with wonderful views across the beach to the lighthouse. Many thanks!
