Description

Park your car, walk into our property and leave all your woes behind. That's what we do when we stay. You cannot help but relax with the beautiful surroundings that Omakau has to offer. The locals are amazing friendly people and will welcome you. What ever you are into Omakau has it. Take a drive to the Poolburn Reservoir, famous for its fishing and amazing rock formations, where some of 'The Lord of the Rings' was filmed. Visit the local ghost at St Bathans Vulcan Hotel, or hire a bike and take in the breath-taking views along the way of the Otago Rail Trail, great for beginners or experienced cyclists. Lots of history in this town, as it is an old gold mining town. Visit the locals at the Commercial Hotel, well known for its great meals and hospitality. Fancy a wee 'vino' visit some of the local vineyards around Alexandra, or take a drive along Springvale Road and pick up some local produce of vegetables and fruit. Fancy a game of golf, clubs for hire at the local golf club just a short walk from our cottage and they only charge a very small fee for this nine holed golf course whilst taking in the beautiful scenery that surrounds. There is even the local bowling club opposite our cottage. Just want to relax and put your feet up, easy done. Help yourself to the magazines or books provided, surf the channels on sky television, or just stretch out on the couch and take in the views. How about a BBQ in the summer or lie back on a sun lounger and take a well earned rest. Nothing is a problem in Omakau, because whatever the seasonyou will not be dissapointed. The grounds a super child-friendly, and if you would like to swim indoors there is an indoor pool not far away that is open over the summer period. We have had very satisfied guests, and have had some people return because they have enjoyed it so much. Ophir is not far away and if you like to wine and dine they have a lovely restaurant called ' The Pitches', and also have a courtesy van right to the doorstep.

  • We stayed for just one night while cycling the Otago rail trail

We stayed for just one night while cycling the Otago rail trail. I would really recommend this property to anybody passing through Omakau. It was spacious, immaculate, had its own section with a pleasant view to the ranges, and was handy to town if you wanted to eat at the hotel. There are full kitchen facilities if you want to prepare your own meals. Everything was provided for us to prepare our own breakfast - this is a bonus when you are cycling and don't want to carry food. Excellent!!
