  • Go to sleep listening to the waves on the beach, see the Hector Dolphins, go fishing, be private.
  • Learn a craft, how to handspin, or knit. Learn how to decoupage, find semi-precious stones on beach.
  • Go to town for dinner, or cook @ the bach.

This stunning South Island beach, although not privately owned, is extremely private. There is only my husband Al and myself that lives here full time and we welcome visitors from all over the world. Go fishing, rods available and a fishing buddy. Or maybe learn how to handspin fleece and knit a beanie.... Many craft adventures available. Walk the beach @ sunset, then back to your private cottage, that looks over farm field and the Southern Alps and maybe a bbq or cook dinner on the new stainless steel, full gas stove. The quaint coal range heats all your water and then some, for a awesome shower.

You are only 15mins or 17klms to the main town of Ashburton, where a real restaurant cult is growing, with dishes from Japan, Thai, Indian, Mexican, European and many more are available to delight your taste buds. There's always something on in Ashburton... Car show's, Farmers markets, Beautiful gardens in the Domain. Event Centre offers International shows, and a great Movie Theatre.

Wakanui Beach, offers a serene peaceful break for you, for a night or a larger break, everyone whom we have had stay, all say the same thing, " A Piece of Paradise" Children and pets welcome, a lovely private garden to have a wander in, sunsets that will take your breath... It's hardly possible to find a original piece of Kiwiana in N.Z. anymore, with the world being so busy, but here, time stops still, just the birds song to wake you, and the sound of the waves on the beach to help you sleep. Although we are " off the grid" this in no way will stop you enjoyment. Heaps of power for lights, just the same as a electrical house. A full gas Indesit Italian gas Stove, the gorgeous efficient coal range heats water and you'll never run out. Our water comes from 80 mtrs below ground. No chemicals, soft and pure.The cottage is in the 21 st century, with many delighting in this stunning place, and rebooking before they leave.

Special conditions: Please Note: This is not a swimming beach, but, plenty of great walks and fishing.... Both children and dogs under control please and cats also are welcome. All dog inoculation certs including kennel cough need to be up to date please... please bring your certificate book if needed for inspection, This is for all animals safety and wellbeing. Thanks, Molly.

    Charm and comfort (and books on the shelves) in the cottage; the peaceful, well-loved garden that wraps around it; excellent fishing on that exciting piece of coastline; peace and quiet, the sound of sea and birds;

  • The Bach is situated right by the beach

    The Bach is situated right by the beach. It has its back to the beach and so is sheltered from the winds, making the garden a delightful microclimate. The house looks across the fields to Mt Hutt. The beach is shingle and gem stones can be found there, but it is not safe for swimming. The house is a traditional bach, it is clean and equiped with all you could need. It is totally off the grid, but the water comes from 80m deep so you do not need to boil. This is a unique and quirky bach. Enjoy!
