Bach or holiday home | Westport | #32692
This house is the host to its very own little blue penguins who live right underneath the kitchen floor.
It is only metres away from the beach and you can lay it bed at night and listen to the tide sweep in and out.
Make your morning coffee and walk 20 steps to the beach whilst the kids play with the sand & stones before breakfast.
5 mins drive or a 15 minute walk will take you to The charming creek walkway. Within 40 mins of the prestine bush walk you will find a swingbridge that looks over to the most amazing waterfall.
Take the kids to the local dairy to get an ice-cream and a $1 mixture then walk across the road to the Ngakwau river where you can have a go at whitebaiting (in the season Sept/Oct) or just fish for herrings off the bridge.
If your peckish grab a quick pint & some fish in chips from the local pub/café and head back to the river. 7 mins south head into Granity for your coffee fix at the local café, then take a look at the talent at the local arts & crafts gallery, then check for any bargains and meet the local ladies across the road at the Granity Op shop. Check out the local museum and admire some of the old historical buildings such as The Lyric Theatre which still runs theatre plays. Take a drive 8 kms up the Millerton Hill and explore Millertons tracks. Walk up the steps to the old bathhouse and get a sense of the old miners who used to trample this walk everyday rain, fog , snow or sunshine. Book the family in Outwest tours and take a tour of the largest open cast mine in the country. Tours are very informative, lots of fun and very cheap! Heading south you can explore the Denniston Hill (if you have read the Denniston Rose then this will give you an appreciate of the tough conditions of mining and pioneering of the past). Its a great place to take Moutain Bikes with panoramic views. If its raining (as it does on the coast) there is always the indoor pools and sports centre including squash courts. How bout hunting & fishing!

We arrived late in the evening and the property was perfectly set up, beds made, hot water on and tv all ready to go if we wanted to use it. Pros: PERFECT beach side location Warm comfortable beds with additional mattresses and blankets Spacious bathroom and shower Adequately stocked kitchen Homely dining area Big outside area with deck Clean tidy well equipped Cons: Personal con with under 3 was not fenced to road but this is minor as the beach is right out the back door and safe!
We loved this property, the beach was right there and the penguins were lovely to hear and were very considerate neighbours, they had a bit of a chat around 4.30 in the afternoon and that was all. A very special place for those who want to enjoy the West Coast in a traditional bach.
