  • Sit and enjoy the long sunsets from the back yard, Children Free under 16 as they should be.
  • Walking distance to local dairy, pub/cafe, Charming Creek Walkway, & Ngakwau river for whitebaitin

This house is the host to its very own little blue penguins who live right underneath the kitchen floor.

It is only metres away from the beach and you can lay it bed at night and listen to the tide sweep in and out.

Make your morning coffee and walk 20 steps to the beach whilst the kids play with the sand & stones before breakfast.

5 mins drive or a 15 minute walk will take you to The charming creek walkway. Within 40 mins of the prestine bush walk you will find a swingbridge that looks over to the most amazing waterfall.

Take the kids to the local dairy to get an ice-cream and a $1 mixture then walk across the road to the Ngakwau river where you can have a go at whitebaiting (in the season Sept/Oct) or just fish for herrings off the bridge.

If your peckish grab a quick pint & some fish in chips from the local pub/café and head back to the river. 7 mins south head into Granity for your coffee fix at the local café, then take a look at the talent at the local arts & crafts gallery, then check for any bargains and meet the local ladies across the road at the Granity Op shop. Check out the local museum and admire some of the old historical buildings such as The Lyric Theatre which still runs theatre plays. Take a drive 8 kms up the Millerton Hill and explore Millertons tracks. Walk up the steps to the old bathhouse and get a sense of the old miners who used to trample this walk everyday rain, fog , snow or sunshine. Book the family in Outwest tours and take a tour of the largest open cast mine in the country. Tours are very informative, lots of fun and very cheap! Heading south you can explore the Denniston Hill (if you have read the Denniston Rose then this will give you an appreciate of the tough conditions of mining and pioneering of the past). Its a great place to take Moutain Bikes with panoramic views. If its raining (as it does on the coast) there is always the indoor pools and sports centre including squash courts. How bout hunting & fishing!

  • Bach was as expected, Westcoast kiwiana

Bach was as expected, Westcoast kiwiana...which is why we booked it and overall happy with the configuration but was disappointed to see that there was no washing machine. We had packed light excepting to do washing but not hand-washing. Needs to be noted that this isn't available. Found it a bit pongy too (mainly in kitchen - due to penguins). Comfortable enough

The location is just wonderful - across the garden and on to the beach. The house was cosy, clean and warm (on the wettest NYE in years!) The penguins under the kitchen were a lovely sound - and the wekas wandering around the garden were pretty terrific too. I would **love** to return to the Penguin bach - many thanks Celeste and hope 2017 is great for you.

  • Fabulous location! Very comfortable family bach

Fabulous location! Very comfortable family bach. Enjoyed listening to the penguins, so many amazing day walks and mountain biking, lovely beach, rich history and friendly locals. Exhausted after six days of intense activities and we still didn't achieve it all!

  • Our family had a wonderful Easter at this Bach

Our family had a wonderful Easter at this Bach. It was a very chill out and relaxing location right on the beach and close to the Ghost Road. We all enjoyed the fire pit and especially the outside bath. We sat up listening to the Penguins chattering about their day under the house.
