Cottage | Te Horo | #33004
Eel Creek cottage is a warm, northeast-facing, light-filled cottage set on our small farm, where you can relax and enjoy the peace of the countryside, or venture out and about in the local area.
A handy location if you are attending a local event, perhaps a wedding at beautiful St. Margaret's Church, or one of Ruth Pretty's popular cooking classes just down the road. The Lavender Farm is a short cycle, and each month there is a country market at historic Te Horo Hall.
Nearby Otaki hosts some fantastic events, not least of which are the Kite Festival in early March, and later in March, the Maoriland Film Festival, the largest indigenous film festival in the Southern hemisphere.
If you long for some great riding on beaches or wide country verges you are welcome to bring your horse - contact us to discuss.
Bicycles are available to ride to breakfast at the local cafe, or further afield toward Otaki river or Te Horo beach.
A beautiful heritage-listed native Kohekohe bush on the property hosts dozens of tuis which feast on the stunning autumn flowers.
And of course the eels! We can give you some meat if you'd like to feed them by hand.
Special conditions: Not suitable for young children as there is an unfenced stream running through the property. Water levels are dictated by mountain rainfall, and can rise quickly. This Bach is priced well for what it is. It you don't need a full kitchen, and you do need a quiet place that's very comfortable then all is good. The bed is wonderful, the bathroom is great, and there's plenty of space. If you want a base to explore the Kapiti Coast as I did, then this is right in the right place. Easy drive to Waikanae, Otaki etc etc, and a lovely 6km bike ride to Te Horo beach. Coffee and food options are just down the road at the SH1 junction too! :-)
