  • Stunning views over the bar and up the coast, and only a short walk to the beach for a surf or swim.
  • A cute and cosy little bach set among the wild west coast vegetation. Private and secluded spot.
  • A five minute drive to town or 30 min walk along the harbour's edge to Raglan's busy shops and cafes

Experience an authentic kiwi bach (with style), set in a magical spot at the harbour's entrance. The perfect place to relax, enjoy the surf, or watch the dazzling kite surfers at play. The view changes by the hour and with the tides. At low tide dogs and kids will love the rock pools and huge expanses of sand to run, fly a kite, or just enjoy the invigorating west coast air. Surfers are close to Raglan's famous surfing spots. In the evening from the deck, watch the sun slide into the Tasman sea as the sea birds head home to nest. Ocean Beach Cottage is a little gem, set into the hillside overlooking the open sea and unspoiled coastline.

Raglan offers great restaurants, a lively music scene with frequent visits from touring musicians as well as locals, and a wide variety of arts and crafts from the various galleries and monthly Craft and Farmers' market. There are interesting treks for bush walkers - from gentle strolls through Wainui Reserve, to the demanding climb up Mt Karioi, an extinct bush-clad volcano with views from the top of three harbors: Kawhia, Aotea and Raglan. Raglan caters for many interests: not far away is Bridal Falls, our famous waterfall, or you can take a trip to remote and beautiful Ruapuke Beach, swim at Waingaro hot spring pools, go horse riding along the beach, or hire a mountain bike and head for the hills. In summer the surf beach is regularly patrolled by life savers, or there is the safe harbour swimming by the Te Kopua camp ground and the town footbridge, where local and visiting kids jump gleefully from its deck to the sea below.

Ocean Beach Cottage offers all basic amenities for a restful and casual holiday, where you can escape the pressures of town and wind down to a simpler life and slower pace. Summer or winter, the views and walks will blow you away.

Special conditions: Deck not suitable for small children. Pets allowed with prior approval, but site is unfenced. Smoking allowed outside only. Not suitable for more than 4 people.

  • A very good location overlooking the entrance to Raglan Harbour

A very good location overlooking the entrance to Raglan Harbour. The bach is very small and basic (several windows didn't open and we felt some effort could be made to clear some of the growth around the bach could be made eg the view is impeded by a large flax bush directly in line from the lounge window and another flax bush is growing hard up against another lounge window - minimal tidying up of the grounds would make a huge difference to the enjoyment of staying here.

    Owner/manager responds:

Thanks for the feedback. We are getting the windows repaired. As you will appreciate the constant westerly salty winds are not so good for wooden windows which tend to warp, and is also the reason we keep the grounds in a largely natural state, to shelter the bach from the frequent winds experienced on the west coast. We do regularly cut back the flax bushes, but also believe that many visitors like the natural beauty of native plants and come to escape tidy structured gardens of suburbia.
