Description

  • Easy walking distance to the Octagon
  • Unique 1860's built cottage
  • Private garden overlooking the City

Canongate Cottage is in central Dunedin, just 10 minutes walk to the Octagon.

Built in the 1860's, this simple yet delightfully charming cottage is unique and cosy thanks to the wood burner. Traditional 'two up & two down', with a kitchen and bathroom in the 'lean-to'.

There are two upstairs bedrooms, one with queen size bed, the other with two king singles.

Please note; bedroom access is via a steep staircase! This makes the cottage unsuitable for children and less mobile people.

A 10 minute walk to the Octagon takes you past the famous Speights Brewery, cafes, bars, restaurants, movie theatres and galleries.

There is a private garden with a view out to the ocean and harbour in the distance.

No off street parking available. Due to its proximity to town parking can be tricky during work hours, from 4pm week days and during the weekend parking shouldn't be a problem.

The location was very good, a slight uphill walk if you are walking back from town, but very close to the Octagon & Speights Brewery. The cottage was delightful and we really appreciated the breakfast items & treats that greeted us on arrival. The bathroom was lovely. The only reason for it not being five stars is the stairs could be a little difficult for older ones. We could see there was no choice as there was not enough room for longer stairs, but we had to be a little careful.

Very central to the city centre - easy to walk and drive just about anywhere. Fantastic views over central and south Dunedin. Lovely property, neat and tidy and very quaint. Very well catered for in terms of bathroom, kitchen and cleaning utensils. Overall a fantastic place.

Great central location and the cottage packs a lot into a small space with secluded outdoor area. You are warned about the staircase!

By far the house with the most character and charm I have ever stayed at. Loved the stairs and very comfortable beds. Everything about this house is so quaint. Gorgeous! And certainly functional too. The little extras were a lovely surprise. And we enjoyed the historic pictures inside the cottage, too. Came ‘home’ for lunch one day as the private garden was so enticing and the weather spendid!
