Dorset lodge has been our family escape for 20 years. Our comfortable three-bedroom bach sleeps 8, has a large deck with mountain views, a cranking fireplace, fully equipped kitchen and off street parking. It’s been recently rennovated with a bike shed, infinity (endless) hot water and has also been freshly carpeted.

Open the doors onto the large north facing deck in the summer or light the fire and enjoy cards, videos or games with family and friends in Winter.

The name "Dorset Lodge" comes from an old sign that we found thrown away at the tip many years ago that has since hung from the pergola in the garden entrance for twenty years. The house itself was an old Italian workers cottage built in Tokaanu when the hydroelectric scheme was being constructed. It was relocated to Ohakune, along with two smaller cottages at the rear of the lot, and over the years our family have upgraded it to make it warm, friendly and well appointed. At its heart it is still the old workers cottage complete with a toilet that you access via two internal doors that would have once been an outside alcove.

All beds have mattress protectors, pillows, duvets and duvet covers. You need to supply your own top and bottom sheets and pillow cases.

Special conditions: Duvets, pillows and tea towels provided. Please bring your own sheets, pillow cases and towels.

  • A cosy little place not too far from anything

A cosy little place not too far from anything. A nice hot shower with good pressure. Good value. Unfortunately the only source of heating was the open fire and a few bedroom heaters (not sure that there was even a heater for each bedroom) so if you didn't get up to stoke the fire in the middle of the night it was very cold in the morning. House is insulated but it's not enough warmth alone for an Ohakune winter. Desperately needs a heat pump. Only parking for one car.

    Owner/manager responds:

Many thanks for your feedback and glad you enjoyed your stay. There is definitely a heater in all three bedrooms and the bathroom (in addition to fire)... Three of these are themostat...Sorry I should have advised to put these on thermostat... The fire usually keeps the place very cosy but heaters top up during the night. There is only one covered carpet but there is a car park out the back and lots of room in the street right outside in the house.

  • A great location between the Junction and the shops

A great location between the Junction and the shops. Lovely native planting in the front, a large deck, fab wifi and comfortable beds. The only downsides were a smoke alarm with an anti-toast agenda and the neighbours are a wee bit close. We appreciated the secure bike storage and supply of firewood - thanks!!
