Cottage | Te Kaha | #36643
Aruhe is one of two habitations on the property known as Motuaruhe. Your host, Kim, lives in the other house and is available most of the time during your stay. The property is large and you are free to wander about it. Whanarua Bay has a micro climate which allows for some sub-tropical plantings.
The cottage is secluded and the environment, tranquil.
There is a BBQ and the kitchen is well equipped with a pantry of basic foodstuffs and condiments. If I can provide you with something not available in Aruhe's kitchen, I am happy to do so.
There is a Nespresso coffee machine for those who like a real "hit" in the morning. Instant and plunger coffee is also available.
Aruhe is sustainably built using the wooden walls of an older building. The decks are also constructed from recycled timber. The interior floor covering is made of very strong bamboo tongue and groove and the walls are insulated with wool fibre. Because we don't have a rubbish collection recycling is of utmost importance and all organic matter enriches the small vegetable garden. Water is pumped up from the stream and I ask guests to be conservative in their use of it.
Aruhe is on the edge of the Raukumara forest and there are walks to the top of the hill, or to the waterfall for those who like a bit of exercise. The beach is 10 minutes walk away and is one of the prettiest on the East Coast.
Pets are welcome but the property is not fenced so they are entirely your responsibility. Possums and wild life are frequent visitors and whilst possums are not protected they may tempt your dog on a wild possum chase. Please ensure your pets are fully inoculated before they arrive.
The birdlife is wonderful and night skies are pollution-free, which make them great for stargazing.
Special conditions: Please do not smoke in the cottage. If smoking, please do so outdoors and dispose of butts responsibly. Pets are welcome. Please ensure they are under your control at all times and I would prefer they stayed off the furniture. Please remember that the deck is a long way off the ground and children should be monitored at all times. A First Aid kit is in the bathroom cabinet. In case of fire, please phone 111 and inform your host immediately: there is an extinguisher in the kitchen.

The place we stayed at was simply one of the best in NZ. It brings back many memories of our country (South Africa, Louis Trichardt ) listening to birds singing, being in the bush, just what we needed, and even a bonus - Kim allowed us to have our dogs with (Awesome) Will definitely come back. Really wished we stayed longer.....Missing this place loads.
Aruhe was perfectly positioned for privacy and easy access to local beautiful bay. loved the extra little touches that kim made available. freash produce from her garden and really good coffee. Aruhe was very comfortable and peaceful.
