Description

  • Aruhe cottage is secluded and sits in a peaceful, natural environment.
  • The perfect place to chill out and relax, catch up on your reading, sleeping, or finishing the PhD.
  • Water activities like diving, swimming kayaking or beachcombing. Or there's bush walking

Aruhe is one of two habitations on the property known as Motuaruhe. Your host, Kim, lives in the other house and is available most of the time during your stay. The property is large and you are free to wander about it. Whanarua Bay has a micro climate which allows for some sub-tropical plantings.

The cottage is secluded and the environment, tranquil. If you prefer not to prepare dinner you may arrange to eat with your host. There is an additional charge for this. Please let me know when you book.

Aruhe is sustainably built using the wooden walls of an older building. The decks are also constructed from recycled timber. The interior floor covering is made of very strong bamboo tongue and groove and the walls are insulated with wool fibre. Because we don't have a rubbish collection recycling is of utmost importance and all organic matter enriches the small vegetable garden. Water is pumped up from the stream and I ask guests to be conservative in their use of it.

Aruhe is on the edge of the Raukumara forest and there are walks to the top of the hill, or to the waterfall for those who like a bit of exercise. The beach is 10 minutes walk away and is one of the prettiest on the East Coast.

Pets are welcome but the property is not fenced so they are entirely your responsibility. Possums and wild life are frequent visitors and whilst possums are not protected they may tempt your dog on a wild possum chase.

The birdlife is wonderful and night skies are pollution-free, and great for stargazing.

Special conditions: Please do not smoke in the cottage. If smoking, please do so outdoors and dispose of butts responsibly. Pets are welcome. I would ask that you ensure they are under your control at all times and I would prefer they stayed off the furniture. Please remember that the deck is a long way off the ground and keep a close eye on young children at all times. A First Aid kit is in the bathroom cabinet. In case of fire please inform your host immediately: there is an extinguisher in the kitchen.

The place we stayed at was simply one of the best in NZ. It brings back many memories of our country (South Africa, Louis Trichardt ) listening to birds singing, being in the bush, just what we needed, and even a bonus - Kim allowed us to have our dogs with (Awesome) Will definitely come back. Really wished we stayed longer.....Missing this place loads.

  • Aruhe was a perfect weekend get away spot

Aruhe was a perfect weekend get away spot. Lovely modern and clean studio in a great location - quietly nestled in the trees, a short walk to the water. The drive along the coast should not be missed and we hope to return again.
