Bach or holiday home | Russell | #36734
Piwakawaka, set on half an acre covered partly with native bush, is offered for the first time as a holiday let. Built in 1983 to a high standard and taken over by new owners in April 2016, the house is built for indoor/outdoor living, and has multiple living spaces within. It is built to a typical Russell 'style' with exposed Douglas Fir ceilings and open plan living. Fantails flutter around visitors to the garden and the house is named after this delightful tame and friendly little bird... Piwakawaka - loved by all.
Any family can walk into this house and feel instantly at home due to its open plan layout and mezzanine floor connecting all areas of the house. Its four bedrooms are roomy and well appointed.
Te Wahapu Peninsular is a popular location for Russell locals, and in places enjoys a microclimate due to its north facing aspect sheltered from cold southerly winds. Many opportunities exist for exploring the coastline, fishing or tramping from this location or driving to other beaches and walking tracks in the area. A walkway from Russell Village traversing mangroves and kauri forests along its way to Okiato ferry landing, crosses Te Wahapu Peninsular 1.5 km from Piwakawaka.
The vegetable garden produces seasonal goodies and oyster lovers will enjoy a tasty treat purchased directly from the oyster farm nearby or can have the served to them by local restaurants. However nothing can beat the flavour of that freshly caught snapper.
The whole Northland district is steeped in New Zealand history, and a visit here offers the opportunity to immerse oneself in this interesting past, from Russell Village Museum and Pompalier House to the old Whaling Station at Whangamumu and many places in between.
Opportunities are offered by local tour operators to experience sailing the beautiful Bay of Islands, deep sea fishing or fishing for a tasty dinner option, dolphin cruises, Bay of Islands cruises, swimming, snorkelling, and many other pursuits.

The location was ideal, just five minutes from the boat crossing and similar into the lovely nearby town of Russell, but also a short walk down to the beach. The property was a home from home and perfect for a large group or family. The whole house was very clean and tidy, the beds were comfy, well equipped kitchen/BBQ and lots of space to relax downstairs. The outdoor space was also great, either relaxing on the decking, in the garden or star gazing from the upstairs balconies!
