  • Just a stone’s throw to enjoy the sunset from the waterfront, and a range of evening dining options.

Russell, one of New Zealand’s earliest settlements, is a quaint, picturesque, seaside village, rich in early New Zealand history. With beautiful, restored, notable buildings at every turn, including New Zealand's first Church, first Police Station, first Mission Printery and first licensed Hotel, it has a unique and historic ambiance. Add to this, the beautiful beaches which are close-by in all directions, a range of boat excursion options out into the Bay of Islands , and local tours, as well as fine dining, and you can see why Russell is an ideal holiday destination.

Our apartment is just a 2 minute walk from both the tree-fringed Russell waterfront, lined with significant buildings, and the main pier or wharf, which buzzes with boats and ferries throughout the day. A 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive takes you to stunning, sandy Long Beach, with its extensive views stretching out over the Bay of Islands. Drive a few minutes in another direction to get to historic Flagstaff Hill, where the story of the flagstaff is a well-known part of NZ's history, or the sheltered cove of Tapeka Beach. Choose to relax on the beach, take a sight-seeing, dolphin-watching or fishing boat excursion out into the Bay of Islands, watch the daily activity on the Russell waterfront, explore some of the historic buildings (many of which are the first and finest of their kind in NZ), learn about early New Zealand, or dine at any of the many restaurants. It is a short ferry ride across to Paihia and Waitangi, where the historic Treaty was signed between the English and the native Maori in 1840, and where early New Zealand's history is stunningly showcased at the Treaty Grounds Visitor Centre.
