Bach or holiday home | Geraldine | #37180
The Lookout is a very special place. Situated in a beautiful Scenic Reserve, home to countless native birds. Set on 3 levels, our 3 bedroom home has been completely refurbished. From the top deck you're up high up in the tree tops, with views all the way to the ocean. From the lower decks you'll enjoy being nestled in the forest with even more stunning views. Secluded, private, warm, clean and comfy.
Great for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and larger groups. Price includes all linen, towels and exit clean.
Here you can relax and unwind, in total privacy. Take a soak in the clawfoot bath, walk many of the stunning tracks on your doorstep. The dawn chorus is incredible; bellbirds, kereru, fantail, rifleman and other native birds are regular visitors near the house and around the property. The property is set on over 1 hectare of private forest within the reserve. At different times of the year you'll enjoy masses of Himilayan Lilies flowering, a stunning display from Rhododendron, and an array of native plants such as the Kotukutuku (tree fushia) with it's delicious edible berries. Stargaze at the brilliant night sky, read a book, or enjoy a glass of wine while listening to the bird song at dusk.
Whether you wish to visit a waterfall, go boulder hopping, canyoning, horse treking or climb Mount Peel, a range of outdoor activities are on your door-step – with something for all levels.

There was attention to the details in the upgrades that were recently finished. It is in a remote area of the forest and has a charming cottage feel. The only thing that I wish we would have known before arriving is the cafe nearby closes at 4pm this time of year. Geraldine is not far and has options for food so as long as you plan ahead it is not a big deal. Luckily, Rebecca was thoughtful and had left fresh eggs and bread for us. So eggs and toast is what we had for dinner upon our arrival.
Hi Brielle, the Bar and Restaurant re-opens at 6pm Wed-Sat for dinner (they close around 4pm and reopen at 6pm). They have a great new menu, including homemade pizza and fantastic ribs! They're well known for live music most weekends Spring/Summer time too. So sorry you missed out, but glad you enjoyed the fresh eggs and bread :) I'll update our guest information to include their opening times, and will pop a new menu up at the house for guests also. Thanks so much for the feedback :)
Incredible attention to detail. Beautiful craftsmanship. I REALLY appreciated stories Bec & Sam shared about re-purposed copper fuel lines, found ladders and modified bread pans! Our stay at The Lookout will be forever regarded as the best part of our trip to beautiful NZ despite amazing stays in Queenstown, Auckland & Christchurch. After initial trepidation when faced with a short hike from, car to cabin we were richly rewarded with an incredibly relaxing stay in a forest oasis.
