Description

A lovely sunny cottage nestled in an area of native bush and garden with harbour views. It is in a quiet part of the township, walking distance to the hospital and three minutes drive to the car ferry and shopping area. Rawene is an historic town known as the car ferry town where the vehicular ferry departs on a regular basis to transport travelers across to the north side of the harbour. Rawene is one of the oldest settlements in New Zealand. It has a small supermarket, cafe, garage and petrol station, takeaways, art and craft galleries, chemist and hotel. Your hosts are locals and can help make your stay a memorable one and can share their knowledge about Hokianga's interesting bi-cultural history. Meals and tours by arrangement. BBQ available (one off cleaning and gas charge) Rawene is 15 minutes from Opononi made famous by Opo the dolphin in the 1950s, 45 minutes from Tane Mahuta, the majestic kauri tree in Waipoua forest, and a 15 minute ferry crossing away from the historic township of Kohukohu. It is roughly an hour across to the Bay of Islands and just over two hours drive to Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga). Special conditions: Happy to discuss discount rates for longer stays during the period from June to August. Extras: Linen (included); Cooked breakfast (Optional, NZ$15.00 per person); Historic tours (Optional, NZ$0.00 per person); Evening meals (Optional, NZ$0.00 per person); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave;

    Rawene Cottage is a beautiful cottage, it is so clean and has everything you need. In the middle of winter the sun streams into the rooms and you can sit on the terrace and feel totally relaxed. It is a place to ‘recharge the batteries’.

    Beautiful cottage, beautiful grounds, beautifully decorated by someone with the eye of an artist. We were able to gather fresh herbs in the garden, and the hosts left some fresh provisions in the fridge for us (milk, butter, yogurt). The view from the back bedroom and deck was fabulous.
