  • Architecturally designed house
  • Sunny, with plentiful balconies on which to enjoy it!
  • Nestled in native bush, with lots of birdlife

Te Kereru is a unique and interesting house designed by an architect as their own, nestled in native bush above Onetangi beach on Waiheke Island.

With a light and airy open-plan split level layout and interesting angles, it has a lovely sunny living area which opens onto a deck with expansive views across the bush to the sea. A wood burner means this is a warm and comfortable area all year round. Up a few stairs is a dining area, and a large well-equipped kitchen, with a huge wooden island. This opens onto a further deck, with an outside table, chairs and a gas BBQ.

Downstairs there are three bedrooms. The master bedroom has an ensuite and opens onto another large balcony. It has a top-of-the range super-king bed, which is separable into two singles. There are two further bedrooms, one with a queen size bed, and one with a single, the latter with a deck. A spacious family bathroom, with a bath is on the entrance level, where there is also an outdoor shower.

Surrounded by bush, there are multiple decks on which to sit, enjoy the tranquility, and watch the native birds - tui and kereru (NZ native pigeon) are abundant. A few metres away is a track leading into the NZ Forest & Bird reserve of Waiheke Forest, down to the beach (15 minutes), or through the Forest to other spectacular views.

Te Kereru is located above Onetangi, a couple of minutes drive to the lovely beach and cafes. It is close to various wineries, and and five minutes drive to the supermarket, shops & the weekend market at Ostend. Oneroa and the ferry is a further few minutes from there.

Please note that due to the design and the open stairs, this house is not suitable for toddlers.

We loved it! House was warm and comfortable, we loved relaxing on the balcony with the view at night after a day of exploring the island, a wonderful retreat over the top of the trees. We drove to Onetangi to the Boathouse cafe and beach for breakfast (a great spot!) but you could easily have a nice walk down the hill we have young kids so walking back up a bit much. And was a lovely experience to stay in a designer style home. Thanks for an amazing and memorable Waiheke stay!

  • Nice Property located within a short walk to the Beach

Nice Property located within a short walk to the Beach. Our visit was in the winter and we found the wood burner inadequate. It struggled to heat up the house and the vents to turn the heater down did not work so in the morning its had burned out. We also felt the new shower room could do with an extract fan.

  • Great property with great views nestled in the native bush above Onetangi...

Great property with great views nestled in the native bush above Onetangi Beach. 900m walk down the road to the beach, or a slightly longer walk via Onetangi Bush Reserve for the more adventurous. Kitchen was well stocked, beds were super comfy with great linen. Great spacious open plan house. Lounge was great to chill out in on a rainy day, and the multiple decks were stunning to sit out on and enjoy a wine looking at the view. Only downside was the dryer was not working.
