Description

  • Stunning views of Lake Wakatipu and the Remarkables
  • Family accommodation close to all major amenities and public transport
  • Classic New Zealand bach filled with 'Kiwiana'

Our family bach commands stunning views of the Frankton Arm of Lake Wakatipu and Queenstowns 'Remarkables'. It's a true bach, rich in history and full of memorabilia. Most of the furnishings are from a previous generation although the beds and appliances are near new for a relaxed stay. The bach is in 'Old Frankton', a five minute drive (or a five minute walk from public transport) to the heart of Queenstown. Close to all Queenstowns attractions but away from the crowds. It's a 10 minute walk from the airport so you can fly in and not need a rental car. YES the planes do fly over head and watching them is really cool, especially for kids. It's only a 15 minute walk to a supermarket and major shopping center. The bach and section are child friendly (not fully child-proof) with childproof locks on cupboards containing cleaners, a fireguard, a high chair, lots of kids DVDs and a toy box. There are lots of books, with a focus on the stories and history of Central Otago. A large park, indoor swimming pool with hydroslides, lakeside walking trails, golf course, the Queenstown event center and the lake itself (full of trout and salmon) are all within 10 minutes walk.

Queenstown is the perfect place for either a restful break or full-on adventure holiday. Leisurely walks, vineyard lunches, jet boating, bungy jumping, gold panning, horse trecking, four major ski fields and two internationally acclaimed golf course all nearby and last but not least its Lord of the Rings country with tours to suit everyone. We can supply you with a list of family friendly things you can do for free and our favouite cafes.

The bach is warm with 2 nightstore heaters, radiant heaters in each room and an open fire.

The Castle is the perfect base for your lakes holiday. Close to Arrowtown and an easy drive to Clyde, Roxborough, Wanaka and Hawea. It's even used as a base for the Otago rail trail.

Obviously we love the place but so do our visitors, just check out the guest book...

Special conditions: Min 2 nights stay. The bach is suitable for 4 adults only. There are 2 bedrooms, one room with a super-king double bed, the other with two super-king single beds. The lounge can be used to sleep 2 children on pull out beds. The bach is fully self contained. All linen is provided. Guests are expected to leave bach tidy. They do NOT need to clean or launder linen. REFERENCES REQUIRED.

The property had a lovely charm to it, and was in a great location. The details of the house were really nice, and the rooms comfortable, The only bothersome bit was the rather late check-in time of 4:30.

  • A good place to relax

A good place to relax. It is a home and not a house.

  • We all loved the Castle

We all loved the Castle. Great location in Frankton, short drive to Queenstown and close to airport, nearby retail park and bus stops. Very spacious accommodation with everything we needed, felt just like home and would love to have stayed there longer. It was so very peaceful and relaxing despite there being 5 of us. No disturbance from the airport, just the excitement of planes coming over a few times a day - one of the highlights! Great views of the lake too.

Old fashioned and dated throughout but after you read the history of the property it all becomes clear as to why the owners keep it like they do. If you are looking for a place with all mod cons then this isn't for you! The planes sound like they are going to land on the roof but after the first one makes you jump you sort of get used to it.
