Bach or holiday home | Akitio | #3907
Cathedral-roofed modern beach house with spectacular views of the Wairarapa coast all the way down to Castlepoint. Just steps away from the beach and overlooking a reef where you can find paua and crayfish. Good swimming, fishing and surfing but at its best when you just want to chill out. It's great in winter as there is a woodburner to gather around and keep the house cosy.
The house has a huge three-sided wrap-around deck with plenty of outdoor seating - you can find shelter outside most days, even in winter. You can barbecue on the extra deck beside kitchen - also a great place to sit and look over the dunes to the sea and hills.
The house is well kitted-out, but we've tried not to lose the kiwi bach feel. Fireplace and books, magazines and games to entertain. Sea views everywhere. Downstairs has been turned into a games room with pool table, table tennis and table football. There's a kayak (with life jackets) available to explore the reef or paddle up the Akitio river.
All in all it is a much-loved, spacious, family bach. It's become part of other family's holidays as well as our own. We're glad that so many of our guests come back year after year.

The location and views this bach offers is outstanding. For our young family the beach was a great place to explore, it's wild at high tide (watch kids closely) but during low tide fun, safe rock pools and water shallows to paddle in with crabs, baby cray's and fish to discover. The large covered deck is a saving grace, bring ride-on's for young kids, lots of fun to be had! Worked well with two families, downstairs (external access) is less inviting (converted garage), note no washing machine
Akitio Beach was a homely family property with a wonderful deck to sit on & watch the ocean. Akitio is a long way from other places so you do have to come prepared but it was peaceful with great walks along the beach. We had a lovely few days with good weather.
