Description

  • Alpine-style stone house
  • Close to Coronet Peak, Shotover Jet and Moonlight Track
  • Open stone fireplace

This gorgeous, modern stone cottage is the perfect antidote to the stress of the big smoke. Its construction from traditional local building materials (including Otago stone and rimu) is complimented by all the stuff you'd expect in a modern home. All the bedrooms, the kitchen and the deck are east facing so they're bathed in sunlight for most of the day, and the cottage is comfortably furnished throughout in a manner sympathetic with its traditional character.

The location on a rural lane just five minutes' drive from Queenstown makes it your ideal base whatever the season. It's just two minutes' drive to the skiing or mountain biking at Coronet Peak, so when you get back, you can dump your gear in the laundry room and lounge around on the sun-soaked deck, or warm your tired limbs in front of a roaring log fire (marshmallows provided) before heading upstairs for a soak in the claw-foot bathtub.

It's also a short stroll down the hill to the Shotover Jet for your adrenaline fix. Or if you're up for a challenge, the start of the Moonlight Track is at the other end of the lane for the long hike or cycle ride to Moke Lake. Exploring further afield is also a doddle, as the delights of Arrowtown and the vineyards in Gibbston Valley are within a short drive.

What a delightful stone cottage in a quiet setting and handy location between Arrowtown and Queenstown. Nice to have 2 bathrooms. Loved soaking in the upstairs tub and relaxing before the wonderful downstairs fireplace. Had everything we needed for a peaceful couple of days. Only wish we would have had more time.

We had a comfortable stay at Killington; loved the fireplace, teacups, bath, views, cottage setting, and the good location. Camping feel with a cosy environment. Weather was unseasonably miserable (!) but we were always warm inside. Lots of interesting things to do in Queenstown. Thanks Roth-Biester's.
