  • Permaculture food forest. Orchards and gardens. Small farm with bees, horse, goat, sheep, cattle.
  • A dynamic river estuary that can be kayaked. Mountain bike - Old coach road. Natural walks.
  • Spacious two level Bach style cottage with stunning views. Self contained and all the mod cons.

We enjoy growing healthy food within a permaculture food forest. Helping nature and improving the soil is important to us. A kiwi family who has lived here for 15 years we always have a few projects on the go.There is a selection of orchards- subtropical and deciduous containing dozens of fruit trees. A miniature horse named Daisy leads the grass control team of sheep, goat and cattle. Our friendly farm dog is always nearby.

Your accommodation is surrounded by gardens with diverse farm, sea and mountain views. This is a spacious two level Bach style cottage with a spiral staircase, warm fireplace and a natural peaceful feeling . Our earth house is situated nearby.

Beyond the gardens are tracks through bush and wetlands. Matuku is named after the rare and secretive wetland bird that can be found in the area. A QE II forest covenant contains massive Kauri, Rimu, Puriri and other native trees.

A dynamic river estuary located on Matuku can be kayaked. Full of fish and bird life it meanders through the bush and mangroves. A large stony bottomed swimming hole can provide refreshment in any tide.

We are only three Kilometers from Old coach road. This is a mid level one hour plus track through mature native bush. This links on to Pautua North and other tracks for longer biking rides. Also suitable for tramping.

The Whangarei Heads area has many beautiful beaches and scenic walks to explore. Activities include water sports, fishing, golf, arts and craft galleries. Eateries include the Parua Bay Tavern and the Deck. We are located twelve kilometers from the Parua Bay village, part of which is a gravel road and is part of the adventure.

Special conditions: Please enjoy this peaceful place and respect nature. Please let us help to keep you safe by communicating with us about how you interact with our animals and the Pautua estuary. Pets allowed with prior approval. Smoking allowed outside. We prefer guests to stay two nights.
