Large, warm and cosy historic house with plenty of character.

Across the road from the estuary and next door to the playground in Pounawea. Tennis courts are available behind the house.

Modern kitchen and good facilities, expansive views over the estuary and out to sea.

An easy walk to native forests or biking. Why not jump in a kayak and explore the estuary. Pounawea is a place to explore and relax in privacy. Its not busy but has lots of surprising things to do.

Pounawea is perfect for little ones wanting to bike around the township or watch them play in the playground next door while you sit on the deck.

During busy times (summer and school holidays), check in is at 5pm and check out is 11am. In the quiet season you will usually be able to arrive early and leave late.

Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: Clean the house and do the dishes before you leave; Bring your own linen (towels/sheets/tea towels);

  • Great spot in Catlins

    Great spot in Catlins ... House is old but lots of character and lots of space. There are games for kids and is right on the water and by a playground. Central to lots of attractions.

    We had a great couple of days, the house was perfect for our two Whanau. The Kayaks provided and nextdoor park kept them very well entertained. House is very quirky and cool, queen beds were particularly comfy. Would recommended, and would love to stay again.

  • Great location in a quiet wee spot on the estuary

    Great location in a quiet wee spot on the estuary. Kayaks to take out when the tide is high. Lots of short walks around. Short drive to Owaka for supplies. We loved the weekend away from the chaoticness home can sometimes be however our only heads up to travelers considering this home is that is it not maintained regularly by a hired cleaner which means you are depending on whomever stayed before you to have cleaned properly. Also firewood may not be stocked and you are arriving to a potentially cold house (weather dependent) without appliances ready to go. No wifi and no signal on some cellular providers (not necessarily a bad thing...!). All this being said it is a traditional kiwi easy-going style of getting away in a beautiful location. Owners are good at getting in touch with you/communicating. Lots of DVDs and games about. Would recommend.
