Description

  • Idylic rural, Northland countryside.
  • Central location for Bay of Islands, Kerikeri, Paihia, Waitangi, easy access to East and West coasts
  • Sweet old, traditional bach.

The Acorn is a lovely, old, wooden, 2 bedroom cottage, fully furnished in a country style, with an enclosed garden, surrounded by gum trees and poplars. Very private.

We're just outside the small rural village of Ohaeawai, (with a great butcher and a traditional NZ dairy) 15 minutes from Kerikeri and about 20 minutes from Paihia, the Bay of Islands and Waitangi (by car). A great central base for all that this area is famous for.

We are on the Twin Coast Cycle Trail and are perfectly positioned for the Okaihau/Kaikohe section.

The property was featured in Life and Leisure magazine in 2010.

The Cottage:

The living room is very comfortable with a TV, DVD player and loads of DVD's. There is also a wood burner to make the winter nights warm and cozy. Firewood is provided by us.

You can park outside The Acorn. Our own house is just a walk away from the cottage, however the cottage is very private, as the fig tree and some conifers screen the houses from each other.

Our property is a very small working farm, so come and have a chat with us about feeding some chickens! All our cows are very friendly they don't mind if you want to have a walk in the paddock. We also have a nice stream running through our picnic. In summer the perfect place to have a picnic.

Price is for up to a maximum of 4 adult people.

A 25% deposit is required for all bookings. This is refunded in full if you have to cancel your booking, however you must give 1 weeks notice.

Special conditions: Max. 4 adult people. Smoking only outside. Leave the cottage as you found it. If you just want to leave without doing any cleaning there is a $40 cleaning charge. Check in from 2pm, check out is 10am (but this flexible depending on bookings). Pets are allowed, big dogs by negotiation. We will charge $10,- per day, per dog. There is ample room for horse floats with stabling and grazing available.

Acorn cottage was perfect - we didn't want to leave! Martine has been so thoughtful with all the interior design and decorations so our stay was wonderfully comfortable. The decking and garden were beautiful and the location was great for exploring Northland - thank you!

Acorn Cottage is central to most places in the Bay of Islands area. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as the cottage is clean and comfortable and has everything one needs. It is surrounded by lush paddocks, happy cows and there are ducks, chickens and pheasants on the property. We would recommend it for a relaxing stay.

Fantastic farm location with super friendly and generous hosts. Loved the fresh avocados, eggs and lemons and of course the glass of wine with the hosts. Kids just loved hanging out with the cows and ducks. Would definitely go again!
